I really hate that kind of stuff. My last E90 (330i) had to have the bumpers sprayed twice because of parking lot hits.

There are a couple different DIYs, I think. The best method requires wiring into the fuse box using a piggy back type fuse. It worked flawlessly for me with my V1, and was relatively simple. The method into the sun roof wiring is much more difficult and when you use the sun roof it messes with the power supply to the detector (trust me on that one).
