Those interested in DIY oil changes on N51, 52, 54 and 55 do not have to use LL01 oil as LL01 was updated in 2018 to include N20/26 engine test.
You could use oils having MB229.5 approval (which is more stringent than LL01 anyway) and with that readily available oils such as Mobil1 0W40 and Castrol Edge 0W40. Advance Auto parts runs sale 5qt of oil+ filter. |

That said, I think that was at roughly the same time as BMW's rec for N54s changed from LL-01 to LL-01 FE. |

I would not use LL01FE in my vehicle if someone offered me for free for lifetime. And yes, BITOG is up to date with this. |

I run Castrol Edge 0W30 A3/B3 in winter, Castrol 0W40 in summer, and sometimes Motul 5W40 300V during track season. You have excellent options in Wal mart besides Castrol. All these oils are acceptable for N51/52, and some for 54/55. I personally would not go Mobil1 5W40 FS, 5W40 FS X2, and 0W40 FS in 54/55 due to very high SAPS levels in those oils. Quaker State Ultra Durability Euro 5W40 (Has LL01) $18 for 5qt and it is repackaged Pennzoil Platinum Euro 5W40. |

Can you go past 1 year on and oil change if you only drive only 3 to 4000 mi/yr. I drive my truck daily but not the 335.

Yes, I have seen UOA with 2 year old oils that are really good. As long as vehicle is occasionally driven to eliminate moisture, and fuel in oil, it will be fine.

I was following a lot of tests in lab from used motor oil. My common conclusion is that the most important is the oil change interval that the oil brand (for street car). Every oil has some advantage and disadvantage vs another, but these oil change intervals 30 000km are killing every advantage and is breaking the engine. It's better to fill some average quality oil for 10 000 km that the best and to change it on 30 000km. I'm using the oem bmw oil.
Other very important thing is the filter- oil and fuel must be oem. |

Make sure it's LL-01. From these forums alone, I've learned that your best bet is to stick with Motul X-cess 8100 or X-clean 8100. |

A bit of conundrum and need some advice. Bought some oil from FCP Euro, this way I can be set for life 🤣.
Long story short, I bought Pentosin 5W30 Pento High Performance. Both FCP and Pentosin's website show that it contains the LL-01 Approval. When the oil arrived, the label does not show LL-01. Got a replacement with FCP, Liqui Moly 5W30 Special Tec, because I was concern about the lack of approval on the label. This time, it shows LL-01 with a caveat, "Up to 2018". Not sure what to read of this, it's not approved anymore? My question is, should I even use either the Pentosin or Liquid Moly at all? Or just give up on unlimited free oil for life and just buy something else that is currently certified/approved for LL-01? |

I'm not sure why they would choose to label it that way or what the nuance is—the 2018 refers to the MY of the car according to retailer sites.
I don't use -30 oils, but the liqui moly 5w-40 in my garage says LL-01 without the caveat. The label on the website for the same product says up to 2018. Either way, your car will turn into dust before it will ever know |

Hi there, I own an E93, BMW 325i convertible from 11/2009. While driving back a long way I got the notification of "engine oil under minimum" so I had to stop at a gas station and buy whatever I could find. It was an ENI gas station so they only had this brand of engine oil, and I bought a 10w30. When I arrived home I checked with the mechanic and he said it should be ok so far but to let him know after 1000 km.
For next long trip I would like to buy a 1L bottle to keep in the trunk. Could someone let me know which one should I ask for? |

Hey everyone,
I'm gearing up for my first FCP Euro oil change and I am surprised at what seems to be their lack of variety of oil's on the site. What would you guys recommend for a 2010 328xi? Is it ok to run this in the N52? https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw...-oilchgkit6327 Our winters get very cold, is there no 0w-40 oil available for us through FCP Euro? |

If you want just straight LL-01 from FCP, this oil in 0w-40 meets that cert. There are very few oils left in NA that are 0w and are LL-01 approved. Also note that some 5w oils have similar cold viscosities to 0w oils. You have to look at the specs individually when comparing different brands. https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/0w-...ui-moly-lm2050 |
