To the dealer!
I don't see any last flashed file there, not sure what that means... don't remember how my stock screen used to look...if somebody does great.
Have you tried backing up your "original" file? Did it go thru?

Yeah I tried backing up the original file, it took like 3 seconds and said it's backed up. I tried to restore my original file and it also does the same failed message as when I try to tune.

Stupid question, am I supposed to have my device connected to WiFi while in airplane mode?

Just curious if you could go through step by step exactly how you are attempting to flash. Like from start to finish....ie:

1. Connect battery to charger
2. Insert key
3. Close car door
4. etc.
5. etc.

Might help us figure out if there is something your doing wrong here. Flashing MHD isn't a complicated process if you are following all the steps.

Just wanted to point out that if your using a usb to usb c adapter that could be the culprit too. Try a different adapter because I had a cheap adapter that failed to work, it would get recognize then flash fail, or erase fail ect... once I got a new one it worked fine for my backend flash.

Just something else to try.

Here's what I'm doing.

1. Connect GM power supply set to supply constant 13.7v
2. Stick key fob in dash and press the start button twice, fuel level displays as well as cel.
3. Connect bimmer geeks cable to car, then connect otg to device.
4. Give mhd permissions to use USB, then open mhd and try stage 1 flash.
5. Mhd fails after I press write to dme

Stupid question but when you get in your car and plug in your device before flashing your car door is closed right?

Are you connecting to an iPhone or Android?

The problem might be your cable like I said. The kcan cable is most likely good however the usb to microusb or sub to usbc cable might not be compatible with your phone. It took me a few usbc conversion cables before finding one that worked on my note 8. Each phone is different and each cord is made different.

Another thing to try is to use an iPad (if your using apple) or android tablet to see if maybe the cord you have now will work with it. Phones are extra picky when it comes to working. Alot of usb conversion cables were made for only charging and not transferring data.

I leave my OBD-II cable connected 100% of the time, plug in OTG to phone and MHD pops up (set to default app). The car doesn't even need to be on for that prompt IIRC. Try having the OBD-II cable plugged in, plug in phone and give MHD permission before putting the key in/hitting start.

Why are you pressing the start button twice? Should just be once.

Good call, missed that. Twice is for comfort access. Fob in put it's in acc, so only need 1 press for run.

I've tried it both ways.

Using Android devices, I don't do the whole apple thing.

you should only have the ignition on. The engine should not be on. just press and hold once until you see all the lights come up.

you cannot flash the dme if the engine is one, since the tune is being used to control the afr of the engine.

Yes prob, bc it does a complete end run around the DME as I understand it. You can't use the Backend flash function.. but most everything else.

I think it basically gives you a MHD tune all other times but still JB 'features' (like PI, meth, two step LC and no lift shift). Along with on the fly map switching and indicators from the Instrument panel on JB status.

Write protected would probably be a better term. Don't know how I could go about getting it removed, but I literally just did the MSD81 upgrade 2 days before I tried mhd and don't really want to sink another $500 bucks into finding another one and having it synced with my cas/key. I'd rather drop that on a jb4 and have some fun.

So your msd81 came from an n55? Or did the IS models have lock protected too?

There are ways go get it to write, but I only found this for n55

https://twistedtuning.com/products/l...ies-dme-unlock

It looks like after some reading you can't go back go stock without another unlock. Dam that sucks, no wonder everyone loves n54s. Maybe the best option is to buy another one from a known unlocked b54.
