5 speed civic..put 15k on mine in 6 months and i got the car with 130k..only thing that went bad was the eld..which was a cheap fix. sold it and its still running like a champ
had an awd v8 jeep...great in snow...think i got 8mpg and that was on the highway even took the front driveshaft out and maybe i got one or two more mpg |

I've had a 1996 Accord as a beater, sold that with 165k and got a 1999 Camry. I also have a 93 we have as an extra car for others to use and it has about 178k miles and runs great. They're very solid cars, just make sure you get the 4 cylinder as they're much easier to do any maintenance on. I get 28 mpg mostly city driving and it's a very roomy car with a HUGE trunk, so a DD it's perfect. Picked up my 99 for 1800 and got the 93 for 400, best money ever spent.

I was looking for a beater as well for the same price ($3000) and my first thought was an e30, but any e30 worth buying is grossly overpriced (range from 4500-7000)! I'm not even talking about the m3 or anything heavily modded. I don't know what those people are thinking. Maybe I'm not looking in the right places?

There are clean e30's in the price range... it just riskier than getting a 3K honda IMO. I will keep looking i'm in no rush... prob make the move in a month or 2 max.

If you go for the 2.5RS, make sure the headgasket is good. I've had 2 modded subies and have been around em. Generally very reliable cars from my experience, but as far as the 2.5 goes, just make sure that HG is good and get it checked out. Problem is if you get one from an enthusiast, they think that these things are worth more than an 02 wrx, so you gotta find the right seller.

awd subarus arent very good on gas. Do yourself a favor and get a eg/ek hatchback civic. I get 35mpg all in the city consistently, and the hatch makes it much more versatile.
