I've ran against a couple C6s at Irwindale (1/8th mile) and it's been close every time.
Sometimes I win and sometimes I lose but it's never by much.

actually, not so much. The LS2 auto Vette's are about a half second slower then the LS2 6 spd. Vette in both 0-60 and 1/4 mile. The auto in the 2008 is much improved and is only about .1-.2 behind. People who are not too familiar with the difference are surprised to see the C6 auto run that slow and think it's a driver problem. It's really a tranny problem since the autos in the 05-07's are pieces of shit. In the case of this race, it's the difference between a dead even run with the Vette and the Vette walking away by 4-5 CL's.
Nice kill and it sounds like the Vette owner got exactly what he asked for. |

8.2 in the 1/8th is equivalent to aproximately 12.6 or 12.7 in the 1/4 with our cars.

That partly explains it. The LS2 autos trap at 111+ mph I think. But I gotta be honest, from the stop it seems like Corvette owner didn't know how to launch very well. And I also have to be honest, from the roll, it doesn't look like you were "head to head" even with the vette until 140....it looks like the vette started to creep away right away and looks to be more than 1 car length ahead by the end. Is your 335i and auto or manual? Now get v2 and you'll beat the vette. But unlike the 335i's the manual vettes are a bit faster and the 2008 LS3's are even faster than that, by a decent amount. Thanks for the vids, too bad the camera car wasn't faster so it could of kept up for better video. |

aside from being able to use the simple "anything can happen on the street" disclaimer, this race really does make sense on paper as well (when you look at the numbers). seeing as how an exhaust (be it turbo-back or just cat-back) and a boost increase (via Vishnu, AA, etc.) is putting the 335i into a similar power/torque range as a BPU Supra, and only weighs approx. 100lbs more than a Supra, it makes sense to me that such a lightly modified 335i should be more than capable of handling a C6 auto. even the seemingly large 400lb. weight difference between the 335i and the C6 isn't enough of an advantage to outweigh the difference in wheel HP (from a dig you can obviously see that the weight difference does play a bigger part, but you know what i mean...)

Nice video and very nice runs!!! One question though...the Evo is the camera car -- was he even racing (as he certainly looked like he was racing)? If so, I can't believe how slow he is compared with both the PROcede v1.47 335i and C6 'Vette.

Problem is, he was stock and also had a passenger. And if it was an EVO 8 they only trapped at like 101-102 mph. If it was a EVO 9 they trapped stock around 103ish. With the added passenger, you could knock 1.5 mph off that. So he'd of been 4-5 CL's behind a STOCK 335i, much less the modded one. That's why he was like 15 CL's back. |

While the C6 is a nice performer (I had an '05 and an '07Z06) the car is far far far far from a 335i in terms of pure quality.
Not bashing the Vette.... just speaking my opinion from owning both. I am surprised at the outcome. I need to get on the piggyback train after the first of the year for sure!! |
