Just a thought, but I wonder if the floating caps would prevent the well known salt buildup/ corrosion around the centres of the wheels, as there will be more moving parts, for the water to drain through.

Is there a way to remove center caps without removing the tire? BMW says no but I doesn't look that hard.

Thanks. I got them off with some duck tape to protect rim and a small 99¢ tool from Harbor Freight that looks like a dentist pick.

My last bmw I just used duct tape, applied to cap, then yanked it off. On the m235i, they barely stayed on so I applied a small bit of silicone to the inside so it wouldn’t fly off, which was a problem for that wheel.

Guilty here too.
I used the jewelers screwdriver trick that FaRKle! recommended. Worked perfectly changed in 3 minutes!

I have them installed. Got a good deal at $69 shipped. I like to be a little different. Heck I got a BMW golf umbrella while I was at it.
Still deciding on projectors. There are cheap Chinese one I might give a try to see if I like them.

You don't have to give a shit to implement a thing that you already have in Rolls Royce to BMW. And BMW's focus is definitely driving dynamics. Marketing focus can differ based on what people are attracted to, but they definitely care most about driving dynamics. Developing Mxdrive system, Porsche-level Electronic stability control, absolutely best transmission in business, keeping 50-50 balance despite all the changes, reducing the weight all accross the range, developing completely new suspension and steering are infinitely more expensive to develop than non-spinning wheel caps that you already have. I mean, for years when market was shifting to AWD cars, I was worried that BMWs would feel like Audis. But I have a 540i xdrive now, it feels like a RWD car all the time. M850i, M340i xdrive versions can even do donuts. What BMW is doing just with driving dynamics is very impressive, and I'd guess most of their R&D goes to driving dynamics by a huge margin. BMW cares most about driving dynamics, as seen in almost all reviews & comparisons. Cynicism might be ok sometimes, but when it defies logic and reason, it needs to be challanged.
