Just keep tabs on your average mpg...

Anyone have the official PDF of this document?

I'm not sure what is different in the E90 compared to my curren E46, but I can tell you that the computer changes the oil interval MUCH quicker during cold weather starts and runs. That is how it should be and is quite valid.
Cold starts use a richer mixture which can lead to fuel not vaporizing as easily and thus washing down the cylinder walls and then going past the rings into the oil, causing contamination. That's lowers the longevity of the oil. In my E46 the oil change interval seems to be using more than just MPG, and I'm sure that the new E90 uses the same data if not more to determine when the oil should be changed.

Also, I've noticed the interval change quicker if the trip is short.
So, if you combing a short trip with cold start the change interval goes even quicker and miles driven isnn't a consistent ratio to use.

My first oil change was triggered at around 13k by the computer, and my second change was nearly the same.

This is crazy. I don't care what anyone says, 20k miles before an oil change is insane. I dropped my car off for an oil change today at 16600 and they didn't do it. The service manager is calling me in the morning to discuss it after speaking with the head shop mechanic.

If it wasn't part of their package they would recommend much fewer miles between an oil change. It's all part of their marketing gimmick to try and say how "it really isn't that expensive to own a BMW because the service is so cheap or even free"

It cheap because they only do it once a year. Total crap...

just got the call... and nope they won't do it until the car tells them or at the 1 yr anniversary (2 months). I guess I'll be paying the 85 bucks to have it done.

I always say I'll keep the car for a long time but the truth is I've never had a car more than 3 yrs. so I would say 5yrs at best. I've only been driving this car daily since late Oct. since then I've put 15k miles on it.

The problem is I'll be putting about 30k miles per year on it, most likely, and I just feel weird about doing oil changes every 20k miles. I'm hoping I'll keep it until 150k miles unless I run into some problems.

I think in that case you might want to do it every ~10K, that way every other one will be covered. I wont be keeing mine for that long, so I dont seen the need to waste 300 bucks...

Mine is nearly on 22,000km and has just told me to put a litre in there. Although it is telling me I should be able to do 3,600km. I suspect that I will put it in sooner rather than later though
