Wow, this is really nice info, thanks for posting.
Interesting recent story, I have Style 197 OEM Winter Wheels 8x18 ET34 front, 8.5x18 ET37 rear with 225/40/18 fronts and previously 235/40/18 rears - slightly in the no-no zone. I just replaced the rears with 225/40/18 tires. Prior to the swap, I was experiencing a very slight surging during highway cruise control. After the swap, no more surging. I thought it was a leaking VCG issue (replaced, got better but not perfect) or a cruise control issue. Come to find out it was just the mismatched tire size. |

Hey guys can someone please shine some light over this.
I'm picking up 2010 M3 rims with tires mounted, this set up will go on my 2008 335xi, I'm just wondering if I'll have any issues as far as rubbing, or issues with the xdrive, I appreciate any advice and thank you. Wheels and tires spec 2010 M3 wheels 18'' specs 255/35/18 in rear 225/40/18 In front. |

The offset is the issue. Factory M3 wheels are ET 29 and 23.

I know this may be a stupid question but I am very new to rims/wheels and don't want to order something that wouldn't fit. I have an e90 2011 328xi and was wondering if I could fit these on the car running 245 tires.
http://www.apexraceparts.com/apex-pr...l#.VNTZsyvF-ao I know it isn't staggered but just want to make sure (also would you reccomend staggered instead?) |

Probably will fit - the offset is correct/close. 245 is the widest you can go in front, and depending upon the wheel+tire might rub a bit.

Hey all! Just wanted to know if you think this setup will fit before I order everything.
Front: Rims 18x9 offset 31 with 235/40/18 Rear: Rims 18x9.5 offset 43 with 265/35/18 I've gotten some yes's already from a couple places but just want to make sure! |

For what it's worth, i ran stock 225/45/17 in the summer and 225/45/17 Front with 255/35/17 Rear on my 335xi for a couple years. Now I'm running matched 17s in the winter and matched 18s (255/35/18) in the summer. NO PROBLEMS AT ALL.. |

Hey everyone! I was going to run the setup I posted earlier until I was told that a 235/40/18 tire won't fit on a 18x9 rim. So I was wondering if that is true then could I run 245/40/18 and 275/35/18 (for 18x9.5). Would this work without any fender rolling necessary? (I have an e90 LCI 328xi)

After doing some chacking with the tire calculator posted at the top of this forum, and checking with a 3rd party (1010 tires calculator). I can only conclude that these tables are wrong. I checked 3 sizes in 19" and found all to be wrong. I didn't check any others after that.
235/35/19 and 275/30/19 are stated as having a 0.4% variance, for example. Its actually a lot less of a difference (5 TIMES less). More like 0.087%. This would make this the combo of choice for 19" wheels. I strongly recommend people check for themselves using 1010 tires calculator before buying tires based on info in this thread. |

The data seen below ( tirereack stated diameters using bridgestone RE760) 24.5/24.6-1=1.004-1=.004=.4% now that that is cleared up why does the 1010 calculator give 0.08%. This is because the 1010 calculator uses the ideal diameter that the tire size should be down to 2 decimals, in the real world there are diameter differences in between manufacturers. Also at 2 decimals the 1010 uses is too precise when you think about tire wear which can be 7/32”=0.22” This is why I recommend everyone calculate their difference themselves based on the actual diameters stated by the tire manufacturer of their choice. Below is an example the same tire sizes for continental there is NO diameter difference i.e. 0%

Interesting. OK, fair enough, 'wrong' is a bit harsh, since it seems to depend on various things.
I'm off to check PSS. EDIT: And you're right, with PSS there's a 25mm (approx 0.4%) overall diameter difference between 235/35/19 and 275/30/19 favoring the larger rear. Interestingly, 225/255 is exactly the same amount (25mm) in the other direction (0.4% favoring front). The 225/255 setup is nearly half an inch smaller overall diameter as well (than 235/275), making for a lighter tire and a quicker accelerating car (smaller tires is equivalent to gearing down), as well as being closer to stock numbers giving a more accurate speedo. So I am now back to that as the ideal setup for me. Last edited by Aashenfox; 02-24-2015 at 05:09 AM.. |

Forgive me if this is a poor question but after reading this I wanted to clarify... Does only the tire size matter ? and not the rim size (width) as long as the tires are the correct sizes?
For example let's say 18x8 front and 18x9 with 235/40/18's all around... The width doesn't matter since the tires are all the same... is that correct? Being new to AWD and seeing mixed information on staggered set ups I really want to make sure I'm understanding this correctly.

I'm calculating on my own that 245/35/18 and 275/30/18 are within 1% is that correct?
