I'm in South West... and could get the work done for you with no problem, but try some local bodyshops 1st.... its not that bad a repair honest!

Ok will do. Seems strange that everybody else suggest changing the whole bumper ?

Doesn't help you or change what has happened but I was genuinely shocked and disgusted when I saw the pics.

Hope you get it sorted ok.

That's quite a dent. I pranged my front into another car some while back and that was around 2-5mph. The dent was tiny but had a new bumper fitted.

I guess the repair option is cheapest but new bumper will always be more reassuring that its been done properly. I say go for what you can afford if its not going on insurance claim.

Its only a bumper skin and it will pop out if done by a specialist... my mate does this type of repair for a living... its not worth putting your insurance up for a £200 repair & re-spray. I can send you before and after pic's of mine if you like?

Please do buddy - it will help my confidence with a repair rather than a replacement.

Tony is quite right; after removing my rear bumper last weekend to fit the towbar, with it off it is very flimsy and wobbly - indeed a repair may well be possible without too much aggro.

Is it easy to remove and refit then Dave ? Is there a step by step guide or is it bleedin obvious ?

About 10-12 small screws and unclip the bumper - easy.

BUT - unclipping said bumper from hard plastic mounting does inevitably cause the tabs on the bumper to break. Mine did but it all refitted perfectly.

I didn't take any pics of my towbar job, sorry

If you need help I will do some pics and show you the location of said screws.

I assume it woudl be different between E90 and E92 ? Did you replace the tabs on the bumper then ?

Slightly different perhaps but pretty much the same.

Replace tabs? You con't without replacing the entire bumper. I'll wager that every bumper that is removed from an E9x will have one or more broken tabs. It all refits perfectly OK, so it's of little concern tbh.

Just sourced a new bumper from a kind forum member - so the repair process has begun.

Just cant handle looking at my car with that type of damage. NEEDS FIXING NOW lol !

@ Dave, I understand what you mean now. If its easy to do I will probably do it myself after getting someone to spray it.

I seem to have had exactly the same fate today at the car park

Looks like i'm on the lookout for a decent bodyshop, fortunately not as bent as yours, and the parking sensor still seems to work.

Tony Morgan- where in the south west are you/the garage you reccomend?

I'm hoping it will be nice and shiney for the meet, as you can imagine I'm seriously pissed about it, don't even feel like driving it with a dent in the arse.

Its a bit of a drive for you but Gary at Ital Coachworks in Wembley can sort this out for you. I don't think it needs a new bumper but depending on how hard they hit it you might need the impact shield bolts replaced also.

Neil.

Dear all,

I have just had a quote from my local BMW approved bodyshop (its the bodyshop that my local stealers use) they have quoted me £520 to spray (including the rear diffuser) and fit the rear bumper.

Bear in mind that I am supplying the bumper myself.

What do we think ? I think that is excessive, thoughts ?
