Had an 528xi loaner this last week and I agree wasn't impressed at all. Nice roomy cabin and more comfortable seats than my 328xi but there was no real feel to the drive. Also I hated the engine shut off and re-start. I'm sure feeling it goes away over time.
Overall I was not impressed.

The 5 is bigger than the F30, and much bigger than the E90, no doubt. If you go to the F30 forum, you can read up on the electric steering. In my opinion, it has less road feel but it is still very precise and much easier to steering when parking. The 535i X drive still has the old hydridic steering, it has a bit more road feel but its nowhere close to a E90.
