So I did a bit more research and it turns out that the power steering pumps between the M3 and the 335i are different and they most probably have different pressure and flow characteristics. I would not be surprised if the M3 steering rack mounted on our cars will not have enough pressure and the steering may be too heavy.
... more research is needed.

God I wish this swap worked on my xdrive. It appears it mounts differently. I would pay large sums of cash to have a better steering ratio with more sensitive precise steering feel off center. If you guys think the 335i steering is dull you should drive an xdrive. Im so bummed.

at the rack where it connect so the steering column
a black plastic tab imposes the centring of it, but at least in my istall US car, the steering wheel is then 30° off to the left. Had to remove the tab and centre it correctly it seems that on UK cars this is not the case |

The inner tie rod of the 335i has different part number than the M3 one so no idea if you can fit the M3 rack
the plastic tab is part of a black dust cover on the rack axle. you cut only the tab from the cover. the cover itself has an arrow on the edge, you have to line it up to a mark in the aluminium if the rack, then it is centred. centre the steering wheel and then insert the steering column in the rack. Verify if the arrow is still on the mark on the rack and that the steering wheel is centred... |

Plugged a PWM controller to the servotronic plug, you can nicely soften the steering, but if soft at low speed, it becomes super soft after 40Km/h
It needs a sort of control to engage it only still or at low speed, maybe a JB4 ISO could send a signal on one output pin of the PIC when speed is more than 40 Km/h Rob maybe you can ask terry to code that it should be really easy for him |

concerning the tie rods no problem
but the tab will cause you problems, the steering wheel will be centred but the rack will be out 30° you will notice it on this arrow on the plastic cap it will not line up with the mark. Have a look on the 335i rack there is also an arrow that faces a mark when centred |

the black plastic cap that prevents dust on the axle of the rack has this tab, it it quite thick and has a kind of lip. Just cut it flush with a small metal saw
have a look in this picture http://shop.avw-autoverwertung.de/im...es/28995_2.jpg |

the tab is the same, but the position (angular) is different.
centre both the 335i and m3 racks. the small arrow opposite to the tab on the plastic ring has to face to a mark on the rack frame. then compare the position of the tabs, one will be 30° away compared the other. Cut the tab so that the steering column can be inserted at a different angle than the one imposed from the tab. |
