I am currently working on upgrading the amp/speakers in my 07 335i sedan. The schematic was very helpful but I have enhanced it by adding the pin number on the harness( TYCO part #1-828882-1) that goes into the amplifier( located in left rear behind wheel well). The cleanest way to do this would be to get the matching harness to avoid cutting the factory wiring. This may involve some work on my part but it's better than cutting and having to splice the factory wiring. I am still looking for a place that sells the harness.

I'm trying also (again) to get that amplifier connector (both for the HiFi and for the Logic7 amps) thru some help in my local BMW dealer, as that connector is a part of the amplifier circuit board and not stand alone part.
The last time that I tried doing this was with the E46 OEM amplifier connector direct thru Tyco, but this is a proprietary part of BMW so they could not sell me one. So now I'm trying thru contacts in the dealer service department to see if they can get them... |

I figured it was a propreitary part. If that ends up being the case I may end up cutting and soldering the wires. It's not the end of the world but I would like to avoid it. In any case what set up are you thinking of using? At first I'll replace the mids/tweeters in the front doors and add a subwoofer in the trunk and see how I like that.

Okay what the hell. I hooked up my Hi/Lo to the Sub right and Sub left with no luck. There's absolutely no sound coming out of my subwoofer. So next I take my sub and hook it up to the Rear Right/Left speakers and this time I do get sound, albiet very faint. So now I know my amp/subwoofer work so I try to go back to Sub right/left. No sound. Next I try Woofer right/left and no luck there either! Out of desperation I hooked up my subwoofer and amp to my neighbors car and get a REAL good WHOMMP out of the sub. Nothing weak like what I got out of the rear left/right. What's going on and why am I getting nothing on my subwoofer channels or very weak at the best? I'm literally frustrated out of my mind at this point.
Here are the two channels that have no sound. Is there something special about BMW Logic7 systems that I'm missing? I hear the sound coming out of the Sub and the Rear woofers while I'm hooked up but can't hear anything across the Sub. SUB LEFT Red/White + Brown/Yellow - SUB RIGHT Red/Blue + Brown/White - REAR LEFT WOOFER Yellow/Red + Yellow/Brown - REAR RIGHT WOOFER Blue/Green + Blue/Brown - |

Second, did both Logic7 systems (yours and your neighbor's) are set up the same, as in tone/EQ settings? It seems to me that your OEM subs are getting no signal at all. |

Some wiring visuals to help out
I made some visuals to help myself with amp wiring. This is for a non-L7 system. Maybe these will be of use to others. There is the wiring harness, unseparated (amazing how much they pack into that small space..);
Separated and labeled; Then the diagram. If anyone spots errors, please let me know. |

Beautiful drawing!!!! Nice and clear.
The two you had '?' on are power cables; the brown being -, the other is 12V+. The thin black wire in the background, might be the turn-on, but it is not 12V+. The 12V+ is switched by the vehicle's central electrical system, it is off when the car is in 'hibernation' mode. what software did you use to sketch that diagram? excellent job!! |

Thanks for the strokes! I used Powerpoint, the basic Microsoft office software. I'll try to do a L7 version using the schematic info from the beginning of this thread, when I have some time. The HU to Amp part would just be a fiber-optic cable, though, with no separate wires showing, I think. I don't know too much about that one (not that I know that much about the non-L7, either, but trying to figure it out led to my doing the drawing because I get easily befuddled by masses of wires).
BTW, I'm still trying to find the HU output voltage. Anyone know? I saw 5V mentioned, but it sounded like a guess. My prospective installer wanted to know. |

Is upgrading the OEM amp fairly straight forward?
Like unscrewing wires and rescrewing them into similarly labeled terminal on an aftermarket amp. Sorry if this is a terrible question (noob). Thanks for your help.

Could anyone recommend me some amps with balanced input that can accept the signal from the above wires without adapters? Thanks! |

Thanks Technic,
as mentioned in the list I could use for example JL Audio for sure to accept the balanced input from the BMW HU. The sensitivity of the JL Audio amps ranges switchable from 0.2v-2v and 0.8v-8v. Do you know the lineout from BMW HU (Readio Professional) does fall into the range covered by JL Audio? Thanks again! Because I am going to order an amp with balanced inut. There are lot of amps accept the speaker level input, I don't like that way because the signal would probably be bad preproccessed. |

If you meant "lineout" as low level, it is not. However, it is a nice, clean, and fairly flat high voltage pre-amp signal, just being balanced.

Thanks so much, so I could now order the JL Audio 500/5 confidently. Actually I am satisfied with the sound from tweeter and mid range, a 2-channel amp may be enough for the subs. I order instead a 5-channel to replace the OEM-amp completely just mind not to waste the energy since otherwise the sub-channnels of the OEM-amp would be unused.
