As Dr Jekl said, the battery registration and coding is to set battery charging patterns by the computer.
Coding the battery will have no effect on security/locking/immobilization. |

SO hopefully the jumper cables work tonight, I get it home atleast. Then tomorrow hopefully it works again and I drive it to BMW and get a new battery, get it coded and HOPEFULLY everything works out fine.... THats a lot of hoping, and I don't like hoping, I'm a facts kinda guy.... but we'll see what happens. No harm in trying I guess. If its all a big issue and this that and the other need fixing or I get a stupid bill, the car goes. You'll see it on CarSales in 1-2wks time. I'd like to keep the wheels though. Probably buy something else 5x120 spec just to fit the wheels on to. LOL. |

As far as I know, the car will start and run with the new battery not coded.
From my understanding the coding is to tell the computer what capacity the battery is (which sets how much charge the car provides the battery), and registration of the battery tells the computer it is a fresh battery so that there is no 'adaptation' in the charging pattern to cater to an older/worn battery. I believe the car should start with any good 12v source though. Battery is one of the easier things to replace on this damn car, and for that I am grateful. Edit: I just saw you mention the battery is 660CCA. Did you install it? I wouldn't be surprised if the previous owner installed it without coding the smaller battery. |

I've had the car about 6 months. It came with the car.
I'm hoping with the big ass ute battery we're going to jump from later tonight, the extra CCA's will mean the car will fire straight up. |

Don't really need to rev the motor, but make sure the supply battery is connected to the flat one, then start the supply car and let it run without trying to start the flat car for a few minutes. It will charge up the flat battery so that you've got plenty of starting power. |

You dont have to register/code the battery ASAP. I had my battery in the car for 4k kays before I coded it (not ideal, but i was new to bmw's and back in 2012 there was a lot of conjecture regarding if it has to be done or not!)
It's possible the previous owner didn't register that battery, and 2 years later its been 'killed' from overcharging. That's all heresay as you stated, but it seems most likely it's a dead battery considering you hadn't driven the car for so long. |

The run of badly timed luck continued.
My mate with the ute had his boss call up at 6pm and needed to do finalise a workplace proposal. Took him the best part of 3hrs so I messaged him at 10pm and said we'd do it tonight instead and went to bed. #sounluckylately Atleast its parked in the most secure carpark in Brisbane. |

Well.... its out of the carpark...
One RACQ tow ute, some go-jacks, and tow truck later, the recovery job is done - just not at a success... More on that below... Here it is after vacating the carpark and going up the first ramp.. Then, after 30 minutes of pushing it up 3 levels and out the boom gates we encounter the uphill problem corner I was worried about (refer below in background the uphill).... Unfortunately, we never made it to the problem corner... Onl y10m further and this happened... Buh-bowwwwwwwwwwwwwwww . The go-jack got caught on the metal grate, ripped the bumper off and broke all the tabs / metal hangers, guard clips etc. YAYYYYYYYY. Fortunately, it was just by chance I knew the tow truck driver from a previous life with my S2000 and NSX history and he's offered up full insurance on his end... Ironically, it was a brand new bumper from Youi, and will now, again have to be replaced... but this time under RACQ insurance, and not Youi... Car is now at Brisbane BMW to deal with, fix the steering lock malfunction and whatever else, provide me an invoice to forward onto both Youi for the non-start issue, and RACQ for the bumper (front & Rear as the rear was scratched by the tow rope) / front guard assessment, replacement and repair... Thankfully the front lip still hasn't arrived from Germany, so it wasn't painted or fitted at the time of the go-jack ripping the bumper off and smashing it also. Thats the upside, right? #badluckcontinues Last edited by s2kadrenalin; 06-03-2015 at 01:33 AM.. |

Your luck will change no doubt. This small period is just testing your resolve. You've handled it well so far, I'd see that more as the positive outcome than anything else.
