Pretty evenly matched. Being that the IS-F has an 8 speed auto and the M is 6 speed manual, I thought the M3 did a nice job of not losing to much ground on shifts. Nail every gear perfectly and that race might have gone the other way.

Yes....look at the trees, they don't seem to move any faster.
Rigged.

IMO the M3 is just in a completely different league regardless of this race. The M3 has one of the highest revving, lightest, most advanced V8's in the world. The ISF has your run of the mill high displacement V8 which took 5 liters to get the same HP the BMW got with 4. The IS-F has a torque advantage but it also has a much lower redline and a funky 8 speed transmission. It is a nice daily driver that yuppies can show off to their friends, but the M3 is all business and would rip an ISF on the track. I could only imagine driving an 8 speed auto on the track. "Hmm for some reason I'm in 8th gear when I want to be in 3rd. Let me down shift 5 times to get to the right gear. Oh crap, what am I in now? 7th? 4th? 2nd? 8th? 6th?"
Also lets see this race when the M3 comes equipped with DCT. Must be great to drive an ISF and have the computer do all the work for you. |

You know herbz, your post sounds a lot like what you hear over at honda forums. "So what if its a close race, it's much more impressive that more torqueless 2 liter revs to 8000rpms!" The M3 isn't all business, because a 3 series isnt all business. If an M3 was all business it'd weigh less than 3300 pounds and be compared to 911s and Vettes more often than C class benzes, IS Lexuses, and A4 Audis... And last time I checked, the M3 DCT was a 7 speed so it's not like there's much difference there.
What people are going to have to understand is that no one has the resources that Toyota does. They havent made a real car since the Supra... and the Supra was amazing. The IS-F isn't as impressive as we wouldve liked, but if this is what it takes to put Toyota back into the performance game... then it's only a matter of time before they make something that changes everything

Let all the Toyota tools have their fun saying that Lexus finally produced something that could beat an M3. Then soon as they hit 9,000 miles on their car let them piss away close to a thousand bucks for the brakes on that P.O.S.
Sorry for the rage but I paid $500 for new brakes on my IS350 after only 9,000 miles and that was the cost of just the front brakes. Got it out of the shop and drove it straight to BMW and traded it in on my 335i coupe. That was a year ago and I haven't looked back since. LEXUS= good customer service, numb cars BMW= almost as good customer service, razor sharp cars. |

we HAVE an LS460 L. While it is a great car to drive long freeway distances in, it ends there. The car comes tail out in corners (heavily), i personally hate the 8 speed, and the cabin electronics have some of the worst human engineering i have ever incountered. A touch screen is massively inferior to the Idrive knob or Mercedes Command, as you have to look directly at it to change things. Also, everything in the car is controlled by buttons. This is a problem if you dont drive the car frequently, as there are over 100 buttons within reach of the driver.
The cabin of the 3 series, or the new Merc S class is far better than the lexus. The leather is super soft, and the chauffeur package rear seats are nice, but i much prefer a real drivers car to a softened japanese luxury cruiser. Also: the LS460 brakes are some of the most feel-less grabby pieces of crap i have ever experienced. |
