hey wasup guys. I went to a bmw dealership (not sure if i can say there name but dey suck shiet) and was blown off. Looked at me like i was 12 and did it myself now im hiding it from daddy.

im in real-time at another dealership where i originally bought my car. distance caused me to go to the other one first. I called bmw NA and they were real nice about it and said they would do research.

here at the new dealership, they took my pictures on a flash drive and emailed all the information to regional to see what to do now. now im sitting here waiting.

o btw, they said there are no more rental cars sponsored by bmw? i have to pay for it myself? wtf?

fyi, the tech guy here said it was a good idea to take pictures off the freeway because it shows real-time action after the event and having close-ups of the glass pointing upwards.

It's gotta be apressure thing because if you blast the music in your car and a high note or something comes should that blow that windows in the wine glass theory and pressure is more of a realistic theory than high notes lol. Also if you notice sometimes when you close the sunroof when all the windows are up then your ears get plugged?

finally home..just thought id give an update...

THEY ARE FIXING IT!

strike one for the little guy. I guess all my pictures helped especially the ones just taken from the side of the freeway. Also the pictures up close that show the glass pointing upwards.

It was the talk of the stealership but I guess things can happen when under the right conditions which I guess my car was under yesterday. No one gave me a definitive answer though.

Needless to say, talking to workers who actually listen to their customers goes a long way.

BTW, showing the service manager this website helped a lot. Wish yall coulda seen his eyes when he read that this had happened before, ESPECIALLY since the holes in the sunroofs were very similar in all the cars it had happened too.

Hopefully there won't be any bumps in the road, and I will be riding my baby again sometime this week. Thanks for all the input and suggestions.

Hmmmm, I must have missed that thread. I have a sunroof, so I've been trying to follow the action on them. But I hadn't seen any posts about a sunroof blowing with the shade open. Entirely possible, but it seems the majority blow with the shade closed. :

this isnt the first time i heard of this. dont get insurance invovled. get BMW to fix it, not only that i would be REAL pissed as this is a safety issue. NOTHING on a car is supposd to just blow up, let along the glass. they should really do something for you like upgrading you to a 335i coupe

I've seen this 4 times now from different members on this forum, and every time it looked pretty close to the same break style/pattern and description!

I just searched about this sunroof exploding thing in google and found out is not only BMW that has this problem. In some cars where this happened, the shade of the sunroof was opened!

I definitely hope this issue gets resolved although now I am a little concerned even before getting my car.

I actually don't like the fact that all luxury cars in the US come with sunroofs. It's almost impossible to get a luxury car without a sunroof. They are heavy, expensive, add complexity and eventually something will go wrong with them, they will rattle, leak or explode . They also reduce the structural rigidity of the car. They should be abolished from the standard equipment list.

Report that dealership to BMW NA or give them 1 star and leave them a comment on what they did.

It'd be nice to know who this dealership name is so we can avoid this one.
