To my eye auburn and terra are similar but auburn looks a bit lighter and warmer in tone. Terra is a bit darker, cooler brown in tone... and pretty cool all around, I might add. Here's a 5 series touring in dark silver/auburn. It gives you an idea, but like terra, auburn is tough to photograph accurately. You really have to see it live, to get it.

Great combination, Tierfreund. Of course, I've ordered that exact same interior combination (Terra & burl walnut), so maybe I'm biased! Seriously, I've second guessed my self many times since placing the order, and these photos have reinforced that I made the correct choice. 'Preciate it!

Hi Guys, Im originaly from New York but now live in Sydney Australia. Please explain this fascination North America has for Terra. The majority of the dealers and a personal poll i undertook always come back as yuk... "Terra dont you mean terrable BMW got it wrong on this one...."
I dont feel that strongly about it. Has North America turned Terra mad, is this a colour that dominates in North America. I dont think the wood trim and terra should be seen together ever but hey if you guys like it Sorry guys call me boring but Black leather is my favourite.

I agree. Black is my favorite as well, but I think the reason that terra is so popular/fascinating is because it's so unique, and it's the only interior color in the states that has a contrasting carpet color. I believe that if every interior color were offered with contrasting trim and carpet (like lemon and terra), it wouldn't be nearly as popular. I think that's the primary reason so many people choose a black interior in the states. Black appears to be very "uniform" in apperance compared to an all grey or beige interior, where everything looks so drab because everything in the cabin is the same exact color! (carpet, door panels, etc., etc.) This "uniform" effect is much more pleasing to the eye with a dark interior, but not with a light one, like beige or grey.

I absolutely LOVE Terra and wish I could have gotten it. Unfortunately I loved Arctic even more and decided that the two would just not look nice together.
great pics, really does show the true color, unlike many other pictures i've seen where it looks orangey.

thanks Raikkonen, black is cool, My leather black seats in my e46 look just as good as the day i bought them. My e36 had custom BMW sports seats artic blue which not only dated but showed their normal wear and tear, (marks etc). Please note that i look after all my cars in great detail the and black will always last and look better after 2 years even if you have made a mistake or two along the way.
