Well, I did receive my $500 rebate check for being a car club member today, which helps. And I got a good price on the wheels. So everything will be OK if I turn out liking the appearance of the wheels.

Both the RS-Gt and RGR are really light. The 19x8.5 are 20.77 and 20.6 lbs respectively. This compares with 24.5 for the LM. And think of the weight saving getting those runflats off the car. The difference of steering feel and overall handling was huge on the 550 when I changed out the runflats for PS2's.

Update - Apparently 18x9R RG-R are impossible to find (Tirerack or straight from BBS) and BBS states they don't know if/when they are coming available, so I told them to put on 8.5's for the rear which is stock sizing.

The upshot of this is they are on their way and install can occur sometime in the next week-10 days

Just get as much rubber on the rear as you can. I am upgrading partly due to the lack of grip of the runflats. I know my 275/30/19 Michelin PS2's on the rear will give me more traction. At the very least your wheels will be so much lighter and look sooooo good!

I can't wait to get rid of my blowtenza rfts. I had the abs kick on today during a panic stop at 15mph ... yeah, 15mph. When was the last time you ever got wheel lock from 15mph?

Yeah, I'm going for the lighter, nicer looking, without modifying or rolling anything, and I wanted 18 vs 19 for my own reasons including retaining the stock rubber. He offered 18x10R, 18x8.5F but that means all new rubber and possibly rolling the rear according to BBS website.

The whole thing is I'm OK with the RFT Potenzas, even the sizing, I just don't like the stock rims (and stock brake pads!)

I'm sorry, but the Potenzas are well-tested and well-reviewed by most sources. In fact, other than a DOT "race" tire like a Kumho Ecsta V710, Road and Track (Dec 2006) and Tirerack both have recent tests in which the Potenzas performed real well versus the competition.

They are certainly not sub-standard to the point of danger as you claim, even if you prefer another tire.

I have several experiences in the wet with these tires (16k miles / 1yr of driving) to be able to claim they are. I don't prefer one tire over another, I just don't like these tires. I'm sure they're great if your main concern is being able to drive on a deflated tire. My main concern is braking performance in wet weather; so far I've experienced horrible wet braking performance regardless of of published tests.

I was stating that I can't wait to get rid of them.

Did RT have the RE050 RFT in that test? I thought it was the RE-010R (non RFT)? I'll have to go back and re-read to see what they said about it then. Skipped over it because the test seemed a little wonky, testing different sized tires against each other ... but I didn't pay that much attention.

BBS RGR look really nice!

Anyone have more pictures of these rims on the E90 or E92?

OK, you have 1 yr, I have 1.5 yrs on this tire, we'll just agree to disagree.

But, to your point, my main selection criteria is dry weather performance. I don't push my cars on the street in the rain, and typically take my truck in nasty weather in general. I now hear you emphasizing the wet weather performance, which according to the tests is the worst aspect of this tire, and which I do not have as much experience.

sdiver68- so did you end up getting 18x8 fronts and 18x8.5 rears? Also do you know the offsets? I was thinking of RS-GT's in 18" until I found out they only come in 22 rear offset.

My 18x8.5R, 18x8F have arrived...but they won't be installed until Tuesday. We are going to do before and after weighing and therefore get the exact weights of both stock and RG-R wheels, and also the RFT tires. If they have a non-RFT in the same size/performance rating (like Nero's or PS2's) there I'll get those weights as well on the same scale just for comparison purposes.

mbdurham,
Offsets are 35 in the front and 38 in the rear according to BBS.

Yes, I see your concern with the RS-GT...I guess now looking, price aside, they were not an option for me in the staggered sizes.

First Pics

Sorry guys and girls, the lighting in my garage sucks and its dark outside, but here is the first "bad" pic after a little image manipulation. Better ones will be posted tomorrow, in daylight, promise! I can tell you that on average I saved 17lbs PER WHEEL! That is same sizes with original tires versus OEM Sport Wheels.
