I'll be taking mine in soon for the mirro creaking and losing it's position when unfolded. I always fold mine. As far as the TSB's go, it's now pay access via BMW so it's not unforseeable that they moved them or prevent access to them anymore.

Pumpkin-headed trick-or-treater pulls this trick for a treat.

Yes, the TSB bullitin would be helpful. I've searched high and low for it and no dice. In exchange for this info, I'll offer how my mirror became afflicted with the dreaded "wonky fold".

A little trick or treater with an exceptionally large head this Halloween was paying more attention to their candy than their surroundings plowed face first into my mirror. It didn't look bad at first (the car anyway) but that evening when I went to pull it into the garage the mirror twisted forward and now rests there. I can fold it back with the button but as soon as I start driving it folds forward again. This is not optimal... obviously.

If anyone could direct me to a fix or sum up the bullitin that would be great. It seems every issue with my ride is a default $1200, and I would really hate to shell that out for something I can fix easily.

Thanks friends, hope to hear from someone... someday!

i've experienced this when i folded the mirror in by hand.
shutup, i don't wanna here "why would you fold it with your hand?"
anyways, the mirror skipped over itself, and i had to press the button again, and the mirror returned to normal. the clicking noises are scary, but you're okay if this has only happened once.
happy driving

Awesome, thanks David! I'm normally not opposed to brute force methods but admittedly I was a little fearful to attempt it on my ride. I thought about asking the little trick-or-treater to smack their face into my mirror in the opposite direction as they left just to even things out, but my wife convinced me that would have been in poor taste. Turns out, it looks like this may have been the fix all along! *This is the last time I take her advice*
I'll give it a headbutt tonight and see how it goes!

Hey all, I've had the same problem and found this TSB: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...=473310&page=3

I'm going to try this when I get home.

Brought my car in last Wednesday for my last free service, hits 50K in a couple of weeks. They replaced the motor for the mirror as the SA told me
even if you reset it, it might fail later so they replaced while I still had warranty time left. Good luck.

It made clicking and whirring noises, and after 5 or 6 seconds, it stopped.

Mirrors work fine, though. I was worried it would self-destruct, but it hasn't happened after a couple more fold/lock/unlock cycles and the mirrors act as if nothing's wrong.

I did a search on the forum and it seems that some folks have had problems with the mirrors folding all the way *outward*, but never inward when already fully retracted. The odd thing is I simply pressed the unlock button once, briefly... didn't hold it or anything. Not sure why the mirror would have been doing a darn thing at that moment.

Does anyone know of a service bulletin (SI B ...) for the power folding mirrors that might address this? Thanks!
Sorry to resurrect this mummy post, but OP, I'm having the exact same issues as you, with my driver's side mirror folding in when I open the door. I was wondering if you or anyone found any solutions.

Thanks.

As long as its not folding OUTWARD (past the 90 degree point) I would not worrry about it right now.

Try the steps listed in the alternate post referenced in post #28 and maybe it will reset itself.

yeah, but mine is folding when I open the door, so I need my car coded, so it stops doing this.
