Why does BMW make things so complicated and for what purpose ?
Changing the fuel filter on a VAG diesel takes about 20 mins and the hardest part in the whole process is opening the bonnet. Although my BMW is great to drive and the 6 pot is so sublime, I think my previous VAG cars where of better design in many ways; the fuel filter being an example.

Guys are there two different fuel filters out there for the 335d? I know it's the same part number (13327793672) but there might be a difference based on build date. I own a 2009 BMW 335d and I see my Mann Filter have a "WK 5001" on it while I've seen others with a "WK 519" on them.

Can anyone help clear this up?

Do You have to get a new fuel pipe retaining clip seperately or does it come with the new filter?

The under tray is located is more central that other guides had suggested so on the passenger side of a right hand drive its the second section of under tray that you need to remove.

I've tried many times to buy a fuel filter for my petrol E90 but it seems that I always find the part for the diesel models. even if you check in eurocarparts one ll see that they don't supply this specific spare part for the petrol editions. does anyone know the reason? thanks

thanks Kris for your answer. but how it is possible not to have one? do you mean that they don't have one that is replaceable? cause I know that in some cars the fuel filter is not replaceable since it is located inside the fuel tank of the vehicle...

That's right Terry there's a strainer filter in the pump unit on all modern petrols.the last petrol filter on the bmw's was on the e46.Should never have to be replaced anyway or I'm certainly not aware of it anyway!

The filters had a sex change

Until 2010 the filter was male on engine side and female on tank side. The pre heater was male.
From 2010 on the filter is male on both sides and the pre heater is female.

realoem shows parts nunbers. It's ******672 for the older model and IIRC *******413 for the upgrade.

honestly it isnt hard,its easier on a proper ramp though,takes about 5 mins when on a ramp,my e46 and e90,when i have them at my indys,i get a filter then and repalce it myself as i know the guy well and sometimes even help if he is short on manpower,,i usually fill fuel filters up wit the diesel from the old filter,but on theses inline filters it isnt needed,under bonnet filters are way easier to fit,just like the air fikters on our cars,im sure bmw made thisawkward to get more after sale service cash.
