That's confidence at his best. Until the SES lights at 50,001, and what would be $400 on a Nissan (EVAP purge valve) costs $1700 at the BMW dealership.

A fool who owns a 335 and his money are easily parted, in some way, shape, or form.

The funny thing about the put aside notion is virtually everybody who has a BMW not only already has the money put aside, I'd guess on avg. they have 15X the cost of an extended warranty in their savings accounts. The question really is when, and under what circumstances do you want to take the money out.

Not sure which website I found both of these documents on - here, bimmerfest or bimmerforum...

My thoughts exactly. OP save your money and do your own maintenance.

I bought extended warranty for my car for $1900 (with $0 deductible) from Mercury insurance group. This is top of the line exclusion policy in which things which are not covered are only listed. It also included extra perks like rental car, towing, tire coverage etc.

I bought 5yr/75K miles warranty and the time starts from the day you bought the warranty so I have it till 2015.

I have not used it so far so I can't comment on how good or bad they are.

I have a 2006 330xi with 36,000 miles on the clock... I have no CPO or manufactured warranty left. What would you advise as to getting an extended warranty and when?

I'm curious on these "exclusionary" policies because I just read the entire "exclusionary" 3rd party contract for Premier which is what my dealership recommends. $1900 for 3 years and 75k BTW where the BMWUSA Gold was $3500.

Sure there is an exclusion section which list a dozen or so scenarios where there is not coverage provided, but the second line refers you back to the portion of the policy that lists parts covered under the Powertrain, Powertrain+, and Comprehensive policies and clearly states that if they are not listed there then they are not covered.

How do I know if that list is exhaustive enough?

For example for our turbos the langauage states they will cover "internally lubricated parts" and the "housing" but only the housing if it "brokedown" because of the internally lubricated parts. WTF does that mean? Are out of spec rattling wastegates covered?

I was told verbally they were, but they could surely find a thousand loopholes if they wanted. Basically, its like any insurance claim. Be prepared to fight for a fix.

I wouldn't buy extended warranty for a 328, I think it's a pretty reliable car, and just make sure to get everything checked and serviced/repaired before original warranty goes out.

I have a 335, and then it's a different story. I'm still debating myself if I should get it as my original warranty goes out in a couple of months....chances are probably I will go with a extended warranty. But if I had a 328 coupe, nope.
