I thought the same thing, but its not true on the XI models... look at the 328xi, sport suspension is not listed anywhere, its standard on the other coupes, but the 328xi doesnt have it standard or option. This is how the 335xi will be also (so they say)

Also the 328xi (and 335xi) do not have "raised topspeed limiter" under the ZSP package

You're absolutely right. There is NO SPORT SUSPENSION for 3 series xi models, be it sedan or coupe. I'm still looking into the raised topspeed limiter on the xi's with the sport package. Still no clarity there in the documents I've seen (listed as TBD).

Why you guys so surprised? It has always been a case with XI models (at least all e90 series). XI has suspension tunning in between regular i and sport suspension and it doesn't change whether you get sport package or not. Speed limiter gets increased if you order high performance summer tires. Sport package for i model includes it, so it's automatically gets higher limiter. You can add sport tires to XI model and speed limiter will be adjusted. However, I'm not sure if 225 front and 245 rear is a good idea for AWD car. Usually you want neutral handling and different size tires will affect it (better rear traction on dry, and worse rear traction on wet, snow - car develop so-called "dual personality"). Also, with different tire sizes you can't rotate tires (unless you remount them, which is not advisable for RFT).

I thought BMW was not releasing the 335xi until late summer, early fall 2007?

True. I missed the word "coupe" in there.

Besides that though, I guess the point is that regardless of coupe, sedan, or wagon, the XDrive equipped cars will have the same suspension whether they are equipped with the ZSP sport package or not. And additionally, that suspension is not the sport suspension found on the RWD ZSP equipped cars.

What have you heard regarding the release of the coupe? Has anyone heard if BMW might produce a 335xi cab.?

They don't make xi verts. If you live in a climate where a vert works you don't need AWD.

So, if I understand you correctly, I should not consider a xi cab (assuming they make it; and they might.) because it snows here. That is one of the most ridiculous statements I have heard in quite some time.

That's like saying one should not own a sports car because it snows where one lives.

The way I feel about is that I will own a daily driver like a 335xi coupe or cab. (w or w/o xi) with 4 Blizzaks, and an E9X M3 for my spirited drives. Then throw in a Ducati 1098 for good measure.

To recap:

You can configure a 328xi coupe with sports package and 18" summer tires on style 197 rims) from the factory (in NA at least). This includes the sports seats, steering wheel and 150 mph increased limit. It does not include the lowered sports suspension/aluminum vs steel linkages, etc. as it is not available for the xi coupe (unlike the 328i coupe) and this is reflected in the price. You can also configure sports seats/steering wheel without the wheels (in which case you get 17" all-season tires).

As far as I can tell, it's not clear whether the 335xi coupe will or will not have "true" sports suspension as an option. Probably not, but this is based on the single example of an available model of an xi coupe.

Wow. I might have to re-think my desire to get an xi if this is the case.

I knew about the sport suspension thing, but the paddle shifter thing might be a no-sale thing for me. Not only that, but a steel front sub-frame and arms on a $40k car? What's BMW smoking?

Someone needs to tell BMW that it IS possible to make a AWD sports car.

I advise you to test drive an xi before buying it because the steering feel is NOTHING like the i, it's much heavier and personally I don't like it very much.

My plan was to test drive it before we bought anyway. No one has them around yet, so I'm waiting until they come out. The allure of the X-drive is I'd like to have an AWD car again coming off of the Subarus, but I mean how bad could the RWD be in the winter? Considering how bad winters can get in Germany and they all drive almost exclusively RWD cars...

Why offer a Sport Package on the xi if it's not going to be any sort of "Sport"?

Hmmm, not really. Actually, the AWD BMWs outsell the RWD BMWs in Europe. USA is hung up on RWD.

That's BS. The steering feel of the xi is very similar if not identical to the i. The front suspension does feel stiffer over bumps tho.

Where did you read that ? That is not true. It is the US that seems to require 4x4.

BMW don't even offer an AWD on the 3 series in the UK. Work that out.

BMW doesn't sell the 3-series xi in the UK because BMW only manufactures left-hand drive versions of the car. Considering that the right hand drive world is generally in milder climates, BMW probably doesn't think the engineering costs worth it to produce a right-hand AWD version.
