+2 ********* that would be awesome if you can post that up on this forum... i know it would help out my self and Sddfranco1 not to mention everyone on this forum that might have to face this issue.
mine was bought as a CPO back in nov. of 2010 with 33k miles... but im also the 3rd owner as well. now i have 42k miles and started to see the problem after a 2.5hr (300 mile) road trip. it also has a built date of 1/2008.

Im confused even the TSB the OP posted said that this was normal due to air bubbles in the oil on cold start..there must be other reasons y dealers are swapping out heads and lifters..i can tell u they will not do it for just ticking on cold start

I'm having the same issue with my 2008 328i Sedan. Like someone already said it is a known and common problem with the N52 and N54KP engine. It pisses me off to think that I bought a frickin' $30,000 CPO machine that is not completely PERFECT!
Now I have to take the time to go visit the Service Agent's at BMW South County and get the run around from them. Not to mention the fact that I have to let my baby out of my site for atleast a day! Check out what Bimmer Magazine said in reference to the ticking noise. This quote was in response to common problems with E90's and E92's: "Far more common is a ticking noise made by faulty hydraulic valve actuators in the exhaust camshaft carrier, which is also covered by the warranty. This problem is more common on cars that are used as low-speed daily commuters, especially with automatic transmissions (the automatic tends to keep engine speeds down)."

im not a mechanic or a tech, not even close, but i do know a bit to a point where i know which part does which. if the lifters are bad/faulty it will interfere with opening and closing of the valves that release the exhaust. in extreme cases, these symptoms will cause damage to push rods. when its damaged... you will be needing a new engine basically. so to answer your question now, yes it does bother some of us because if there is a known problem and if the action isnt taken now then later on down the road we would most likely be stuck with a fat bill for something that could have been prevented. this may be the worst case senario, but no one can guarantee me that it will never happen... not even BMW obviously. so why not do something to prevent the headache when you can at a time when the automaker is willing to fix it for you?
