Yeah the Ferrari is clearly the choice in an ideal world, because it's A FERRARI, but i believe it's a car that falls into the "if you have to ask, you can't afford it" category. The maintenance on that thing will be through the roof. Regardless of the cost of the car, it will never be a bargain. I imagine the AM is better cost wise, but only when compared to the Ferrari. Still expensive.
But hey, you only live once. Buy the Ferrari! |

About $1500 US for oil change and minor service on a Ferrari in the US.
About $200 US for oil change on Porsche in the US. $450-600 CDN for oil change on a Porsche in Vancouver. I'd hate to hear what is the price inflation for service on a Ferrari in Canada. I'd go pre-owned P-Car. Done and done. |

The Ferrari is a wicked car but like everyone is saying they are crazy to maintain. I was at my mechanic today and he is doing a timing belt on a 360 for a 30,000km service. Has to drop the whole sub-frame and motor just for that. Its like 4k just for a 30,000 service.
The Ferrari and Aston are 2 different classes of car. Hard to choose |

When I was car shopping 2 years ago, for shits and giggles, I threw an 2005 F430 Coupe into my insurance quote checklist. Between an e9x m3, GTR, C63, C4S, and the F430 - difference was negligible to the buying decision if insurance was the only factor. Granted, the Ferrari was quoted in a different way from the other cars; less KM, and only storage insurance during the winter months. OP - I'm not sure what you're after for these cars, perhaps a description of what you're after and how you plan to use it will help.

I do agree the 360 is outdated, the F430 is out of my budget lol.. they're about $185K. I just want to get from the norm and have a non-daily exotic.... The other poster above was right about the porsche, i know it'll be awesome to drive.. It just looks like a frog. I'm second guessing the AM because I think it'll be outdated once the new models come out. On top of insurance, the other biggest dealbreaker is the car HAS to hold its value well... in about 3 years I'd want to sell it and not lose too much

I'm sorry but is this even possible with exotics like the AM and 360? Wasn't that AM around 185k brand new CAD? I think you should rather spend 75k on a used remodeled 6 series or an f series m3 in a couple of years ... they will still be considered pretty exotic even then...

I said I couldn't comfortably purchase a F430... $185K is out of my league. under a $100K is fine though.

My car is obviously less powerful, etc., but I only pay just over $110 / month for insurance with a small deductible, full coverage, etc.

Actually just checked... My payment is $110 / month, but the annual premium is slightly more than $110 * 12, since they take a double payment for the first one. So I pay about $1,430 a year for full coverage. Had one at-fault claim in 2003, but nothing since then.

Why is everyone freaking out over $350 a month insurance?
I would be glad to pay only 350/mth.... coupe 335i at my age = rape insurance.

both cars will depreciate like bricks in the coming years...
the aston will suffer greatly, specially since you would be getting the v8 model in that price range--the v8 was the lesser of engine and was replaced with the v10 or 12, i cant remember. Thats the only reason why you are seeing the AM in that price range anyway, because the engine was a total let down in performance. It will only get worse IMO, probably will be worth ~45-55k in 3 years depending on mileage. The 360 is going to horrible to maintian, so it should be automatically out of the question. what you are left with really, are porsches. I've already gone through this scenario just like you lol. The GT3/RS/TT models hold their value well, are low on maintenance and have the "status" you are looking for. There aren't many cars out there that hold their value well---- Best resale I have ever seen for a "normal" car has to be the RS4 though-- over the last 3 years, they are still around 50+. Basically, you cant have the pie and eat it too. If these two cars are the only options, I would take the AM. You cant expect a minimal loss on resale though.
