Where do I start but think if it was to be a BMW, then it'd be F10 M5.............in about 2/3 years time lol. Think the price will have halved by then.

I like the X6.

That is a pretty meaty option list for that 5.

Is an auto 335i no where near as fun as a manual? I'm sick of changing gear.

I agree with you. We bought a new F11 touring to replace the old mans 730d, he didn't like it so chopped it in after a few weeks and the only BMW that interested him was the 730d, but tried the GT and loved it. It is based on the 7 series platform but feels far sportier.
Have to say I have done a few long trips in it now and taken it up to our place at the coast across the twistes and it is fuckin' amazing!!

It is now the only BMW I would look at for myself to replace my E Class estate with.
However, with the latest Mercedes models, and the deals that are around on them, I don't think I will be coming back to BMW as my main car again.
Never thought I would say that!!!

It is fantastic Grizzly. Or Yogi. Or Winnie.
Seriously, I never had an auto before my 335i (it is the flappy paddle job not DCT) and I cannot fault the auto. Quite a bit of my driving is in traffic and I find the auto box ideal, but it is really good on the open road too.

Recommended.

My next BMW? I am strangely drawn to a big M Sport X5..........

Mike.

I liked my auto 335i, think it sorted the short rev range.

Mike: It took me a while to get that bear reference lol.

Are there a few auto options? As in not all will be flappy paddle?

gIzzE: Short rev range, really?

Glad to hear the auto getting good reviews. My last car was auto and I miss it tbh. When you're average speed is 27mph, you're changing gear a lot.

Ok mine is a 135i, but the auto-box on it is great. With the addition of the paddles you have just about the best of all worlds. You can be as lazy or as involved as you like. Sure to the purists a manual is more involving, but depending on the type of driving you do it can become a chore on the daily commute. Only trouble is that kicking it down and letting it rev becomes addictive.

Almost forgot to answer the original question..... Next BMW. Maybe a MINI. The Dumpyman is a decent car that rattles less than the 1, drives well, rides better, has more space inside and costs several thousand less than an equivalent 1.

335i with DCT would be the way forward for me before I have to grow up and have a sensible car

Good call actually, i think this might be a little more sensible than the M6 and would get me back into a petrol car.

Well, I meant the older flappy paddle auto, or the newer DCT, which people seem to rave about - so not exactly a range of choices. Like I said, the older auto box is a gem, in my opinion (not tried DCT).
I'm guessing Gizze means that there's little point revving a standard 335i beyond 5500 rpm, I suspect the two small turbos can't flow enough air at higher revs than that......but I am happy to be corrected on either count.

Mike.

Yeah I did, the thing I love about a manual is keeping it in the sweet spot, from 3500-7000rpm. However with the 335i there is power on constant tap from around 1800rpm, through to 5500ish, so the rev range is pretty short, and it whips through it pretty quickly, a bit like a decent diesel, therefore I feel the auto suits it well.

330i manual, 335i auto.

Always wanted an M3 but could not justify the costs after having owned a few 2.0Ds across Alfa, Jaguars, Pugs and now my BMW.. Used to drive a 2.4 petrol Alfa 156 - was so nice to hear a somewhat 'roaring' engine lol.

Future car will be an E92/93 330/335D.. and when I' really on the big bucks, get an old skool E30 or E46 M3 for weekend drives, fully modded. Can't wait for that day :-)

Gotta be an F30 for me - probably one of the cheaper turbo petrol variants like a 318i/320i or however they badge them. That's if they don't make a mess of the initial variants, and if they do I'll have something in the interim like a Mini Countryman or a 1-series

I'd have either a Alpina D3 touring with Xenons & Navigation or the new D5 Touring. The D3 might be a real possibility the D5 is probably out of my price league.

330i manual, 335i auto.
Rev range is 0 -7000 and there is plenty of power all the way through...

Maximum power might be at 5800 but the car still accelerates and sound gets better all the way to the redline
