Same problem
The nozzle clicks off quite often when my wife or I try to fill the tank. Readjusting the position, squeezing the handle partially, nothing works.
Have an appt. Tuesday with the dealership to get it looked at along w/ a couple other things. |

Just the other day I was filling up and it was going extremely slow and I was squeezing the handle all the way. I tried all sorts of different ways even stopping for a few seconds and trying again. It was only pumping a few cents at a time then it would speed up; slow down ... It was freaking annoying! I was there probably a solid 5-6 min and barely pumped 1/2 tank... I was in a hurry and gave up as it was taking too long. |

We have 3 cars, 1998, 2007, and 2011. It happens on the 2007 and 2011....imho it probably has to do with the rate at which fuel can go in. Since we only have full serve where I get gas, it seems like attendants are used to it and always have to ask if it's full (if it stops in .5 gal, they know, but if it stops at 3 gal, they are not sure). It makes me nervous when they turn the pump handle upside down and set it to pump. That pump falls out, it would probably dent the rear 1/4. I really hate full serve, dumb, outdated, law.

Always have problems at Chevron stations in LA, once I was pumping gas with the clip set, then all of a sudden it clicks and flies out and onto the floor luckily it didn't dent the quarter panel.
Recently I had the pump in hand selected the fuel I wanted as soon as I hit the fuel selection button 1/4 of a gallon of gas came shooting out all over the car. |

I was at a 76 station when it didn't work. Not sure about Chevron.

I am going through a similar issue with my 2009 328i that I just purchased 3 weeks ago. Your issue could possibly be the pump, but Im going to give you a heads up of what I have gone through and maybe this will help. I too had the issue that the tank would not fill past the 3/4 tank mark. I tried multiple gas stations with different pumps and the issue persisted. After a couple of days the service engine soon light came on, I called the dealership and scheduled to bring it in the next day. On my way to the dealership the car completely stalled on the highway and would not start. Dealership picked it up, they replaced the fuel pump and returned it to me, went to fill up the tank and it went higher but did not reach the full mark. I decided to drive it another 24 hours to see if I could figure out what was going on. The fuel gauge would go up and down 1/4 tank and after 24 hours the light came up again. This time I decided to go into the OBC hidden menu and verify the fuel tank test which is 06.00, it tells you what the computer is receiving from the sensors on the fuel tank. In my case it reported 00.0 25.6 25, which shows that the left fuel level sending unit was reporting empty when in fact it should report a quantity. The fuel tank in e92 has to 2 fuel sending units one on the right which is integrated with the pump and one on the left which is integrated with the filter. If one of them is failing the computer is not getting the correct reports from the tank and will cause problems like Im going through. If I where you I would go into the OBC hidden menu and check that the tank is reporting the correct levels. Fuel gauge issues are related to all the fuel tank components I mentioned to you failure of any of these parts can cause more problems in your tank. I am still waiting to get my car back from the dealership and will update you once it comes back and is resolved.

Happens to me ALL THE TIME at Chevron even in my Tundra. I just manually hold the nozzle in the tank. Pretty annoying especially because the truck takes 24+ gallons. There was one incident where I left it pumping and the entire nozzle popped out of the tank spilling gasoline everywhere!

Interestingly enough I went to a Chevron last night and the tank filled perfectly. Not sure what happened at the 76 station.

I have the same problem with my Z4
for 6 months, and have just taken it into the garage (would have been sooner but I have been hanging out in the French Alps with a broken ankle).
They couldn't identify the problem, but I found some other useful posts from BMW owners with the same issue, so am pushing back. the most likely on my experience of the symptoms at over 40 different pumps in 2 different countries, it looks to me like it is the venting issue, but I don't know for sure yet. If you want to drop me an email at dawn.gibson@inzenka.com I will send you the info I found. I have tried the nozzle in every conceivable position so ignore people who tell you that is the issue, it isn't, neither is it the pump you are at. |

I actually haven't had a problem since. May have just been that pump...

I had the same issue but it ended up being my DMTL pump becoming saturated with fuel. I had to have it replaced.
If the tank has ever been overfilled, it causes fuel to go into the DMTL pump which is responsible for removing fuel vapors from the tank. If the DMTL pump becomes saturated with fuel, it will be unable to remove fuel vapors from the tank and will cause premature stoppage of the fuel nozzle. That's why BMW recommends to stop pumping as soon as it clicks once. |

Happened to me on 3 occasions.
Same gas station, different pumps. Went to another gas station, all fine. Went back to gas station 1, issue repeated again. I informed the manager.... And they confirmed, manny people with German cars having this issue. He said, the guns are about to be changed in a week. DN |

It’s been 14 years I wouldn’t hold my breath on a reply haha.
There are other threads on this issue that are much newer. You might find what you’re after in one of them!
