There is a clause in most warranties that says that the items removed are the property of the warranty company/underwriter. They will probably end up getting refurbished and sold on as recon stock.

There is a lot of German components in most cars bit odd that they have used Mitsi turbo's. Must have got them cheap in a deal or something.

Mine was random to start with then every time I started the engine and blipped the throttle -there it was.

I can only describe it as if as soon as you blipped the throttle and released the accelerator someone dropped some coins on metal!(sorry not a very good description)

It was quite obvious when it happened. I also had a high pitched noise (bit like a worn fan belt ) sometimes at low speed.

If you read the last issue of EVO mag, the long term test of the 335i also had a turbo replaced. I emailed the owner and he replied saying he had received a couple of other 335i owners with the same problem!!!
How is the 335i after this fault was fixed? Any difference in performance?
I still await the same repair on my car...after it was diagnosed in November!! My previous E90 330D was quieter!! Long long story over parts, crap dealer and a special tool required for the job. It is supposed to be done next week. Issue raised with BMW UK Customer Care (no idea why they call it a customer care department as their customer care is non existent!)

So all of you with a 335 just listen when you start the car and rev the engine a bit you might here a metalic rattling noise!
Holy Shit! I'm booking mine in ASAP. Mine's done 10500 miles and has a Diesel like rattle at idle (only worse) and has a high pitched squeak like a fan belt or squeaky brakes at very low speeds, usually when pulling away from a junction.....

Not looking forward to this at all...........

Yes this is caused by the wastegate Actuator arm coupling that "rattles" it doesn't Apparently effect power, but does sound bad.

There is a dealer fix now that doesn't involve replacing the entire turbo, Check out the engine tuning section for more details.

Shame as it sounds like his "turbos" were probably fine !!

Don't confuse this rattle with the tappety sound all the 335i's make at the top of the engine... this is the fuel injection system - I' running with no engine cowls and it's loud at idle...

As soon as you press the go pedal though it's washed out by the Husssshhhhh noise of the intake sucking in air - nice !

Yes James is rightm turbos dont rattle, there is nothign to rattle.

And reving at idle does not produce much boost cuz car is not under load.
