Test drove the mini when it first came out in Germany.. That car was like everyone said a... Go- Kart.. Which made me think back to when i was a kid driving my cousins Kart.. I would buy one in a heart beat.. used and supercharged. But i would never give anyone $35k For a Mini. Find a used one Between 15k and 18k and mod the hell out of it for about 5K.

i wouldn't pay $35k for it and i don't like the way they look (my opinion) but performance wise its a great platform i think, a lot of aftermarket stuff for it ...

Mini's can be a blast to drive, but you really give up a lot of creature comforts and luxuries. Also a Mini for 37K is outrageous. Even if this is what they sell for, spending that much on a little hatch seems like a rip-off.

Yeah no, Minis are great cars. They are made by BMW and stick to their roots of being essentially big go karts. Maybe you're just projecting your insecurities upon us

That kind of money seems a bit crazy for the cooper. Just saying, like others, if you really really like it and money is no object, then go for it. You could buy any number of other cars with similliar performance and mod the hell out of it, and have a much better car with much less money.

Probably find some rather nice used M-3's for less.

Happy new year!!

I would do want you want to do regardless of what others on the Internet think about the MINI. I've seen two of these exact same cars at the Nürburgring in Germany and they were pretty cool!

The MINIs are like go-carts. It's not my cup of tea, but it's a cool car and heavily modified.

The new F56 mini is going to have the N20 motor, I would wait for the F56 Mini Cooper GP. Most of the GP holds their value. It's definitely a FUN car to drive on the street or track. I am pretty sure you won't be disappointed.

Young adults, especially males, are typically quite stupid by definition.

I like Mini Coopers, but found the Fiat Abarth to have more sense of occasion for MUCH less money. Plus the dealer is 120 miles closer to my house. Makes a nice around-town runabout, I have my BMW for trips.

Mini Coopers, not necessarily their more bloated models (Countryman or even the Clubman), are legitimate handling machines even though they're FWD. They punch way above their weight when it comes to handling. They've gotten bigger in recent years, but many people I've talked to and online reviewers say they still have their go-kart like handling and charm. FWD is going to be the hard selling point for the BMW crowd though, which is understandable.

OP: 0-60 in ~6s will be noticably slower than your 335i, but the car's handling will surprise you, especially since this car is modified. This specific Mini you're looking at is going to have a noticeably different personality and presence on the road. I've seen some JCW Minis on the street, parked and driving around, and they have a certain look to them (and sound) that gives off a different vibe.

If you're the type of person who values handling in the twisties more vs. straight line speed, then this car will not disappoint. You will have to ask yourself though if you're willing to adjust or put up with the handling characteristics of FWD. I'm personally not sure if I could go back to FWD as it would be very difficult for me. I like having at least rear-biased AWD. If there was ever a car that would lure me away from RWD/AWD though, it would be the Mini Cooper S.

It's really a matter of personal preference and what you want. Just ask yourself what you really want out of a car and what you're really looking for. Don't get the car if ultimately what you're looking for is just something new or different. Make sure you really want it and that you're not compromising. If you just want another 335, go to another dealership and find one as it sounds like the one you were working with doesn't care enough to want your money.

Just my $0.02.
Truth.

My only objection to them is that I don't really like the overly stylized interior. They're also kind of small on the inside for my needs and id prefer AWD to FWD just because of how much snow I deal with in the winters.

They handle amazingly though. I test drove an S years ago and it was crazy much the car felt like it was gonna oversteer. Way more than any FWD has a right to. Tons of fun.

First, the car is too small. This is what it is going to feel like, every day:

Second, if you're going to pay BMW repair and maintenance costs, might as well have a BMW. I paid $1700 for a water pump on the Mini from a dealer in a pinch. Granted you will have Warranty+Maintenance, but it holds true, the value isn't there.

Third, the car is too small.

Source: I owned one.

Well it will have free extended maintenance so that isn't the worry. Is it really that small? I drove it for a good time and it didnt seem that bad to me. Make the lack of the backseat lets the front seats go back further. Its not a daily driver, i have a Tundra work truck and an e39 to drive also. Im 6.2 and i had plenty of room i thought (no sunroof) so maybe the headliner is higher? Which one did you own?

I'm part of the young male adult community and I have both a supercharged R53 Cooper S and my E90 3 series and no the majority of this supposed community does not subscribe to this definition. Ignorance is bliss...

Love my Mini to death and I love my 3 series too. I nearly jumped on a 1st gen JCW GP which was just a little bit sharper/hotter than this turbo car in the engine dept, but this car I think has the edge on suspension/rubber. Basically the tires have about a 75-85 tread wear rating and combined with the seats as well as the fully adjustable shocks - this car is more or less a little auto-x/track weapon.

If you were looking at that, I would just save your money and get an Abarth.

Right, it's included, but still, that much money for that much car doesn't jive for me anymore.

Yes, it's that small.

If you have a Tundra and an E39, that makes a difference. A huge one because you can actually go to the grocery store with an E39 and bring home more than a jar of salsa (chips you'll have to hold out the window, the bag is too big to fit in the Mini.) FYI I was 6'0" and ~200. It's the only car I've had that actually felt smaller and smaller every month I owned it.

Again, at that price point, I'd pass and never look back. I'd get a used JCW if I wanted one. I've had one, so I don't.

Aw, come on man. The Little Tykes car was my first car. Don't hate on it. I don't remember it being that expensive to maintain either. :

Kidding aside, I do agree with the others here. The Cooper GP is a bit pricey. You could get a "lower" Mini for much less and mod it and get as much, if not more, performance out of it or if you're willing to spend $37k, you could get more car if you looked at something else too.

I still stand by my statements though that Minis are great cars that handle well.

At the end of the day, get what you want. Cost almost doesn't matter as long as it's what you really want!
