Bought a 335i didn't know it had a downpipe on it

Thanks to all of you for the replies. I'm not upset at all about the downpipes I love that sound and now just jb4 and dci, just as soon as I deal with this passing emissions in NJ. I'm probably going to use the dealer to cancel my extended warranty (believe it or not I initially thought of just keeping the car stock) but now I'm enlightened and now I know for sure I will be modifying this car so that warranty will be void anyway so I might as well get my money back. But anyway one of the guys from vrsf said they would have something out in a few weeks that will resolve this issue ... Hopefully this will all work out. But again thank you all for replying and the information I've learned on this forum is incredible I'm very glad I got this car and joined this online community.

lol, they would be able to tell the downpipes were aftermarket immediately

IL they hook up a scanner and no visual inspection. I've passed emissions numerous times with no cats at all. I guess it might vary state to state. I don't see a big deal having no cats I would be happy to be honest. I took mine out of my e90 like 7 years ago.

Tampering with the emissions equipment is technically illegal at the Federal level. Though it is not like the FBI does car checks. Even in a state with no inspection, it still may be illegal per the state vehicle codes, but with no inspection they really have no way to catch you.

Okay this makes sense. I had a NJ guy who wanted to buy my M5 and he kept saying he won't pass emissions etc and he went on saying it's illegal. I tell him the car will come with the cat just won't be installed. That's all he cared about he not once if the car even drove or not lol.Ended up selling it for a lot more locally.
