Hey guys,

I think I'm going to bring my e92 335i by my buddies shop tomorrow and get the insulation removed from the right muffler (since the left doesn't seem to have any on the e92). Any recommendations before I do this? Besides this future mod the exhaust is stock.

You might as well cover the outer pipe on the passenger exhaust.

I'm worried about this making it too loud. I can always go back and do this later.

So there was packing in both mufflers, I will post pics in a bit. My exhaust and car are at a muffler shop right now, might not have it done until the morning.

I picked up a set of 335is mufflers for a great deal today and you can clearly see that the passenger side muffler is a piece of straight pipe running through not the perforated pipe you guys are replacing in stock mufflers. Just thought it was interesting and obviously why they're a bit louder. Unfortunately I won't be cutting them open to see if there's anything else different

I just looked at mine and it looks like both left and right "is" mufflers have solid pipes on the pipe that goes to each tip. The inner pipes that go to the H crossover both appear to be perforated. That's all I can see, and I'm not cutting mine open either.

Well mine are being put back on right now. Just had the packing removed (and it was there on both sides). I'll let you guys know how it sounds.

Do a sound clip too if possible.

Btw, how much did it cost you?

Really thinking about getting this done, so you removed all of the packing but left the perforated pipes then right? Sound clip would be much appreciated. Thx

Can either of you guys post up a video? I just bought a set of IS mufflers and I was planning on putting it on my e90 exhaust. Right now it's just a secondary cat delete and catless downpipes. I"m worried with the is mufflers it will be a bit too raspy...

I can get one tomorrow but I have all my cats and only replaced my resonater with an x pipe so it won't sound very close to your set up.

BmwMd has an e90 with DP's but still has his secondary and resonater.

What x pipe did you use? I removed my resonator but IMO it sounds like shit and its also leaking, the shop threw out my original resonator so I want to do something about the resonator before I remove the packing.

Pretty sure it was this one: http://www.jegs.com/i/Magnaflow/642/10791/10002/-1?parentProductId=759589

But you could probably get the 2.25" one and have the muffler shop stretch the opening to 2.36 or whatever the exact size stock piping is.

Yea it won't sound exactly like it but will give me an idea so i'd appreciate a vid if you can. I'm considering swapping res with x pipe and doing vibrant where secondary cats are. Either that or keep oem resonator and do vibrant resonators where secondary cats were removed if it's raspy

That's why I'm leaving my stock E90 resonator in for now. I'm hoping the "is" mufflers with secondary cats and the stock resonator will give me a nice exhaust tone and filter out some of the nasty stuff I hear on some cars.

I'll probably have my mufflers on next week. I can get a video after I do.

Wow, this is unbelievable... I think it was the OP who posted he has an E92, opened up both sides, and only had packing in the passenger side?

There's packing on the driver side after cutting open the resonator (after cutting the top). I think that's what he meant.

E92 has only packing on one side, E90 has packing on both sides and IS has no packing on either side.

That's the big question. No one wants cut up their IS muffler. I'm not even aware that someone cut up their IS exhaust. Wonder where he ^ got that info from?!

So I am going to do this because I hate my resonator delete.

What is the ball park price everyone is paying for this mod? I have been reading the thread and it seems like it ranges from $150-$200? Whats a fair price to pay for this, do you guys leave your mufflers there or get everything done in one shot?
