2nd, if you don't have any other mods then you don't have anything to worry about -- You could even uninstall the COBB in the parking lot before your emissions testing.

The AP, when married to the DME, saves a copy of the entire ROM to the AP and also saves it to your HDD when AP manager connects to the AP. Only when unmarrying (uninstalling) does it return the ROM to the DME. A map change to Stg 0 will only place stock-like values in the tables but the AP logic remains. If you suspect the dealership will check/reflash the DME, good housekeeping rule #1 is to uninstall.

If you're worried about emissions testing, stage 0 and 1 won't affect the O2 feedback loop. Stage 2 keeps the CEL off the dash, but the loop is perpetually reset and won't ever read as "ready". This is the primary reason stg2 is stg2, and stg1+ isn't just stg2+ ...

Unmarrying will clear fault codes and subsequently place the DME in an "unready" state. You would have to drive around and put the car through a couple start cycles before all of the checks become "ready".

Woptang is getting ATP maps made on Saturday & I'm gonna try to go and watch. I sent him my cell & he said he'll text me when they get ready to the ATP maps after his meth is installed. Good opportunity to see Akuma's shop, an ATP Map getting made & the gains of an ATP map over the OTS ones.

Forgot where I found this

Edit: found where

Elsewhere I saw a BMW warranty claim advice that said lack of readiness is what gets BMW looking more closely for uninstalled tuning stuff.

Thanks for the info - how long should the drive be for the DME to be back to ready state, is it # of miles, drive time, start stop cycles???

Right, but the Cobb does nothing to effect readiness unless you have catless downpipes. These values are kept intact.

maybe you guys can shed some light on this for me.
first off im coming from a subaru. my tuner used open source to tune with because spending 500$ on a AP was a waste sine i had a data cable for my laptop. with the bmw,its different. ive got low miles, warranty and with that comes the option for dealer work.

what i really like about the jb4 and procede is being able to run a e85 mix and what seems like really solid whp numbers.but the install R&R is a major pita. with the cobb i can flash back to stock for dealer trips.

how is the AP stacking up against the jb4 and procede? ease of use?
for parts im looking at a better fmic, cattless DP,intake and later down the road RB turbos.

If you're looking to go FBO, the COBB Stage 2+FMIC Maps are lethal. While the tune as of right now does not have OTS E85/Meth maps, you can get an ATP map to dial all these things in (E85/Race Gas Maps, Meth Maps, Aftermarket Turbo Maps) once they're installed. Obviously once you start installing things like DPs + RB Turbos, it'll be difficult to find a dealer that will still honor the warranty.

From a simplicity standpoint, the COBB is #1. Since everythings through your OBD port, you never have to lift the hood to install/uninstall or update your firmware.

It sucks that the COBB is the most expensive tune, but IMO it's money very well spent.

Cobb will be superior to both PROcede and JB4 within a few years, but right now the piggybacks really bitchslap the Cobb in terms of power capabilites. My advice: If you want a simple to use tune that is great for typical bolt ons (downpipes, FMIC) then the cobb is great and provides safe and reliable power. If you want to all out and start running E85, racegas, or meth - i would probably go PROcede 1st choice, and JB4 second. Cobb will undoubtedly get there, but it will take sometime or a protune (very few shops offer protunes right now).

Is that definite? E.g. if mostly stock and then uninstall?

I think people are getting confused about 2 different things. If you are taking your car to the dealer, and flash back to stock, then yes you should drive the car for a bit after uninstalling Cobb.

If you are taking the car in for emissions check and you are not running catless downpipes, either change to map 0, or just leave your current cobb map in place and you should pass readiness tests and sniffer tests without issue.

My question is, what if you are running a stage 2 map, with catless pipes, but with O2 sim? Does Cobb simply keep in a non-ready state to avoid codes, or do they only erase codes when encountered inducing a non-ready state at that time. I'm hoping the latter, meaning with the sims no codes encountered so ready state should be good.

There is no need to run an o2 Sim ontop of the tune. Running the Stage 2 Maps will cancel out the tuner codes from triggering a SES/CEL on your dash (specifically the Lambda bank codes from running catless). An o2 Sim is only necessary when your emissions checked through an OBD test. IIRC, you will not pass an emissions testing w/ just the COBB tune.

With stage 2 maps and an O2 sim you should pass emissions. The flash just keeps the CEL light off but still allows the OBD readiness tests to be performed, but the test will fail without the Sims.

That's what I was hoping to hear. @benzy, I know the sim isn't necessary, in fact I ran for a while without it, but I am going to have to go in for emissions ODBII scan soon and don't want to remove DP's to do so. I don't really mind removing the flash for the check, but if Cobb works as rader1 describes I think I'll just take it in as is and see what happens.

If you're going for an Emissions OBD test, then just like rader said -- o2 Sim + Tune, a little drive before to set readiness + you'll be good.

is there anyway to get the cobb to auto clear ALL codes so that I can get my state inspection? I am getting weird lambda codes and i need them to just go away for like 2 days so i can pass inspection(i dont have to pass emissions, just cant have a check engine light)

Only clears the the typicaly 02 codes associated with catless downpipes, outside of that you are out of luck. Stick some electrical tape over that spot on the cluster and hope they dont notice

You can read & clear codes right through the AP. I think it's in the "Trouble Shooting" section & has the engine symbol. When I was getting Lambda codes from my sensors being installed backwards, I could clear the codes while the car was off & not have anything show up (SES/CEL) on the dash for 20-30 mins on light driving (NO WOT).

lol they check with the OBD port I would still need to have the systems marked as ready. Think I'm just going the same route as my roommate, he found a place to sell the sticker for 100 bucks lol.
