dammit. i just cant get that light fixture down. how do you do it? i tried putting one plastic spatula up there, i tried putting two up there. how much force does it require to take this thing down? i am afraid to break it, i was really pulling hard on it too. can someone explain this part a little better? very frustrated right now. thanks!

if you are having difficulties you could always go to your local audio shop or best buy or circuit city and have htem install it. i think they charge like 25-40 bucks for it. i would choose to go to an audio shop if i were you though. i wouldnt risk damaging the car if ou are a bit unsure of taking the light fixture down, but then again you will feel oh so much better knowing you did this mod to your car. haha. good luck!!!

I just installed my V1 with the instructions on this thread, thanks so much for them! Although i will say i was on the verge of taking a hammer to the light fixture and destroying it just to make myself feel better at one point, but then i got lucky and it popped out after an hour of fiddling with it. Anyways, i have one question..i mounted the unit so it sits just above the driver side of the rearview mirror but at this location it has the front of the unit pointing downward slightly putting the rear of the unit facing the widnshield pointed up in the air and not sitting level. Will this mounting arrangement affect performance or is it ok to have it tilted a few degrees?

I was looking at the DIY pictures. How do you have the radar detector mounted? I've done this with my two previous BMWs, and I'm planning on doing this with the e90 as soon as the hardwire kit comes in. This is with a passport 8500. I've used the windscreen suction cup mounts and it works but I've never really been happy. Hard to tell from the pictures but it almost looks like you have it hard mounted. Any info or pics would be appreciated. Thanks!

I got mine installed, but I have same turns off when opening or closing the sunroof issue. I used the green/white wire in the larger bundle (not the one at the back right which the unit hangs from but the one next to it which appears to be the larger bundle). I didn't see any other green/white wire. Has anyone positively identified a wire to use that doesn't suffer this issue? I would open it back up to fix it but I want to make really sure I can find a wire that doesn't have this problem. The e46 never behaved like this.

So, what is the trick to get the light fixture down?
I briefly tried with a credit card with no luck. Can a spatula work that much better? My spatula is rubber!! Also, how do you tap the wire -- do I buy a tap from Radio Shack? Lastly, which wire is which when I strip my detector's cord? Thanks. |

Has anyone found a way to wire the radar detector so that it doesn't shut off when using the sunroof?
I will likely get a Valentine 1 within the next couple of weeks and would like to hardwire it. Michael

A buddy of mine has a mounting bracket that he uses to mount his Passport right to the rearview mirror in his G35. I don't know if it can be used in an E90 with a V1 but I'll check. It looks pretty stealth too; real nice.
