Looking forward to seeing how well this performs compared to RS6.

Exactly. Everyone who doesn’t want the wagon can cruise around in their Coupe/Sedan which will be a dime a dozen by the time these hit the streets. Just look at some of the RS-6’s rolling around. A few mods and those things are Dope!!

The current XM is US$160K -- the new M5 will have a massaged version of that powertrain. I figure a minimum of 150K.

I think it’ll start somewhere in $120K range for base M5 which will be right around 12% more than F90 that started at 106K or 108K than will go up from there depending on how many M5s they’re going to come up with. M5 M5 comp red label CS CSL 50th Anniversary etc etc. One more super special from another 😀

I am the least amount of electrified over an electrified automatic only M5 wagon.
But it's cool that they're trying to keep up with Audi after like 5 years. Good job BMW.

I believe the infatuation here in the US with sport wagons is the fact that they've been a forbidden fruit for so long, only getting some of them sprinkled in sporadically - domestic and foreign.
In all honesty, I love the concept and think they're cool as shit but I would never buy one. It's meant to be sporty and practical but it's worse at both than it's counterparts, the sedan and the SUV. In other words, if a sport sedan is not practical enough for you, you might as well just get a performance SUV. And people do, and I doubt that this time it will be any different. TL;DR It's cool because it's different, and everyone wants one until there's actually one for sale - then no one buys one. This is, of course, my opinion and I'm subject to being wrong more often than not...just ask my wife. |

I drive them not because I need them, but because I love the hatchback/wagon shape. To me coupe is the most beautiful automotive form, but not practical. And if I need two extra doors, why not use the empty air over the trunk footprint? And allow me to alter your statement... "... if you really need one, one of these would be the one to get:" Audi RS6 Avant Volvo V60 Recharge / Polestar MB AMG E63 S Wagon Porsche Panamera Porsche Taycan M5 Touring And the ROW, of course, has plenty more choices! OK, BMW send it (pun intended!!) already! |

I think the difference with the B5? (not a die hard Audi guy) RS4 wagon is that it was way more of a sleeper. These new wagons are in your face, no doubt performance machines with gaping grilles, 21” wheels, CCBs, badges galore and mid 6 figure price tags. For my money, I’d either go X5M Comp if I’m spending 6 figures, or something like the M135i or M240i hatch if they made it for the US. Even an M2 hatch at $70K would be a real interesting vehicle. I don’t really care about what others think of my cars, but when half of my buddies would make fun of my $150K wagon, that takes away a little bit of the fun. |

I personally prefer smaller cars and these supercar territory wagons (both in performance and price) don't appeal to me as much as their smaller brothers: RS4 Avant, C43, V60, M3 Touring etc. And look at how many of those camouflage stickers they have to remove! It's no wonder it will take them until next summer to reveal it! |

The weight of every vehicle takes away a lot from driving experience and one doesn’t know until tried. I have an old 06 Z4 3.0SI with manual and while obviously underpowered it is so much fun to toss around. There is one and only one thing that we can blame for newer cars to become heavy pigs and that is emissions regulations. This is the main reason for additional equipment sensors filters heaters, the list goes on and all of that causes overweight. Manufacturers even drop oil pressures (Audi VW group) on idle so the car can run leaner (lower oil pressure less resistance for the engine to overcome to remain running) than those transmissions being setup in the way so the engine stays close to 1k -1.3k rpm while normal driving. What happens than is low oil pressure exactly where you need it. Bottom end of the engine. Oil film gets broken down and here are the famous rod bearing problems. Bottom end with low rpm low oil pressures is under lot of stress. Emission regulations are what is to blame for reliability of the newer cars and it’s additional weight. And that’s a fact.

I will buy one if they get the EV/ICE integration right. Test drove an XM and the cutover between electric only and hybrid was horrible. Noticeable slowdown/speed up when the motor comes in like the old days when the AC compressor would turn on and suck 5-10 hp off the motor.
In comparison driving the Volvo XC90 phev you cannot feel when the motor kicks in. You hear it, but don't feel it. Either way I am die hard wagon fanatic/BMW fanboi so likely I will get one either way since I have been waiting forever for something like this. |

IMO A station wagon is 100% better than a sedan. as Italian-American When we talk about design ans style I prefer to listen to my Italian side. 😄
