Is that not to do with the 2s or so delay between paddle pulling and the gearbox shifting?

Define the 'slop' you refer to?

Is this in D, S, M, or all of the gearbox modes?

Mine is actually pretty good after the oil/filter change & adaption reset, in D it changes quickly & smoothly, although it drops a cog far too easily, when it doesn't need to do, which is one of my dislikes, it should only drop a cog if you apply full throttle IMO.

The other dislike is in M mode, it reacts too slowly on the upshift command, flick the lever and it thinks about it then changes, the downshift on the other hand is pretty much instant.

Does anyone know if the 330d & 335d have the same gearbox firmware by the way?

This has made so much difference to how it drives. It feels like a new car. Very impressed. Thank you very much for this tip.

I strongly recommend that anyone with an auto do this NOW!
I'll try this today before I drive home

For me it felt like the torque converter didn't lock up soon enough upon the first press of the pedal.

That's not something I have an issue with actually, but it has got fresh oil in there and does drive nicely, be interesting to drive each others cars to compare.

Did I reset your gearbox adaptions when you were round the other week? Didn't seem to make much difference in my E90, it did when I had my E46.

Yeah you reset them, it didnt make much difference. I'll be getting the gearbox fluid etc changed soon. Planned to get it done sooner but had that bloody boost issue.

£400 for a gearbox "remap or reset" is taking the piss IMO.

LOL.....at the end of the day the auto gearbox in the 335 is just a normal shit automatic gearbox, no matter what.

Jiim - speaking as someone who has refreshed the oil, filter etc in the gearbox myself and then reset the adaptations I have to say I find the gearbox excellent - especially in sport mode.

In normal drive mode I find it does compromise and tends to be in too high a gear when driving around town at times. However if I want some wheel spinning fun I find sport mode and sport manual mode lock up the torque converter just fine - as you know I have the DTUK box and it;s pretty brutal.

I seriously recommend servicing the box first mate - resetting the adaptations and then going from there

Mine has had the oil & filter replaced and adaptions reset, I've no issues in D or S with the speed it changes gear or locks up, so I would definitely get that done ASAP, it's lovely to drive now.

My main issue is the lag between selecting a higher gear in M and it actually changing gear, it drops down a gear almost instantly when you push the selector, if it did the same changing up I'd be a happy man!

The throttle actuation reset made a massive difference. Looking forward to getting the oil changed though!

Hi Iceman
How many miles had yours done when you went to VMTP ?

Mine has done 54K and I was wondering if its worth getting an oil change etc it at this stage. The autobox is jerky sometimes when pulling away.

Hi Jules,

Mine has done just over 60K. If you're experiencing jerkiness, I would get this done as it may be that the transmission box is low on oil.

If your car is not remapped, then I would also consider getting the gearbox software updated to the official one via your local BMW dealership. There would be a cost implication for this, but a lot of people have reported much smoother changes and the jerkiness removed, as a result.
