I wouldn't watch it again, but that's the same with all films. I dont watch them again unless I havent seen them in a while. Great film. It's all about the attention to detail.

It's rare I go back and see a movie again in the theatre - I'll be seeing this in the IMAX/3d atleast two more times before it goes out.

Just came back from watching it in IMAX 3D. I was expecting the story to be sub par but it was actually better than I thought. The graphics were amazing. Felt like I was there.

Just got back from seeing it again, only this time in IMAX 3D.
Thought we'd go to the 11:30 am showing, after all who's going to be there on Christmas morning? Wrong, sold out. When I got out of the movie there was a massive line, and the entire theatre was a giant clusterfuck. I knew it would get more busy as the day went on, but good lord people. Every showing is selling out. I'm betting the majority are not seeing "Sherlock Holmes." Again, great film....but it didn't quite leave the same impression I had the first time. Really wish I had seen it in IMAX 3D first.....Still freaking epic regardless. Merry Christmas.

Seen it twice - once on 'Blizzard Day' last Saturday, in 3D IMAX and then again in regular 2D. The aspect ratio on the 2D version is wider - wider than the IMAX version anyway, not sure about the regular 3D version.
After seeing the 3D version, the 2D was a let down. And for those on the fence about the glasses, they are not the old school red and green jobs. These are clear polarized lenses. Like at Disney I just think Cameron did a great job. He doesn't use the 3D gratuitously. Stuff doesn't come flying at you out of the screen - you are simply immersed in the movie. Has to be flick of the year hands down.

Guys, it was OK...
But it was too long and for no purpose, in my opinion. The characters were still not developed thoroughly enough for me to care about any of them. Plus, it was slightly on the weird side and had the most predicatable ending imaginable. There were no surprises the entire time. |

If you are going into the movie expecting an amazing storyline, this isn't the movie for you. Although I thought the story was a little predictable, it's what I expected. One thing that made the movie work, was that they developed the Nabi (sp?) culture very well.
As mentioned previously, the experience is more of being part of the movie itself. Although most of it is CG, the creatures, scenery, forest etc are extremely realistic. I especially enjoyed the scenes where they were high up on the trees on the cliffs and the camera pans down and you feel like you have to keep your balance or you will fall off. Kinda felt like I was part of a video game the whole time. |

See, that's my problem with movies today. There are NO good stories anymore...it's all visual effects and sex.
I keep going back to it, but The Shawkshank Redemption had absolutely no special effects and was simply a great story. The fact Avatar was nearly 3 hours and cost ~$250,000,000 to produce is a joke. Hollywood will continue to produce movies that are visually appealing but lacking the substance because Americans eat it up for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. |

But I've always liked fantasy. The economy is down and fantasy is where it's at. With all this vampire/werewolf crap Avatar was really a breathe of fresh air. Sure it was mainly the "visual experience'......But overall I really enjoyed the film. With people going back for seconds/thirds/etc, I think it will make a killing. I guess Cameron had a "trilogy" in mind all along....so we'll have to wait and see how it pans out. So far we really only have 1/3 of the story.

and what does it have to do with americans? you realize this movie is playing all around the world, right? and our domestic sales are a fraction, although sizable, of this movie's gross sales. gross sales = people watching, and enjoying, this movie. i was a hater at first, but then i saw, now i can't hate. sometimes going to the movies isn't about hearing a great story, but being entertained. |

Story..Meh. Effects..Cool. Story got really cheesy after Sigourney Weaver got groped by a tree! My wife and I were laughing at all of the "I see you" and silly one liners. We were waiting for the clap scene after the big battle. Not to mention all of the green, tree hugger.. humans are bad BS. "The aliens went back to their dead planet."
Cool effects but not worth the time. 2 hours is enough. For a story, you can save some money and rent Dances with Wolves. If you want the cheap version to Avatar, watch Smurfs on mute and play Dances with Wolves in the background.

"I see you ..."
Again, and this time in IMAX 3D because it will be even better. For nay sayers who point out the big budget, etc., let's say this movie has already made up for its cost by the time you read this. It will gross much much more than anyone predicted. You give people something they like and they buy it regardless of how economy is doing. Kudos to James Cameron and all other risk takers who put it it all on the line time after time for what they believe in. Nothing significant will ever come out of staying "safe" and following a "formula" ...We all know that |

at first i thought the 3D was going to give me a headache. after my eyes got used to it i hardly even noticed it. the glasses itself felt uncomfortable on my nose. that was the only thing i didn't like about it.
