Drove it on first out of town outing a couple hours north to Alamogordo to meet up with the ABQ branch of the NM BMWCCA, grab a burger and go to the Space Museum.
No issues, need to fine tune the AC pressures now that it is finally warm enough to do so, but over all went well.

I kind of dig it against the BR exterior.

Friday installed a replacement e70 diversity module as comfort access amd remote weren’t working and wiring was already repaired amd tested still good under the spoiler at the module.
Why e70? E70 are plentiful and are ~$50 for known working modules. E91 module is the same module but $100-200 used in unknown condition. Saturday jacked up the rear amd pulled the wheels and liner out to install the factory alarm siren, now that the alarm and remote plus comfort access work, also wire brushed the calipers and gave them a lick of paint to make them presentable. Sunday I took it to cars and coffee meet hosted by some audio/spl guys who are cool AF, had a small contingent of BMWCCA guys show up to support… blew some minds demoing the e90 L7 system with f30 hifi speaker conversion. Imaging is quite good. Needs a bit more TA on left front to widen out but for factory amp amd TA it’s exceptional now that speakers are changed to better ones.

While doing the siren and painting the rear calipers, my son Alex and I discovered that the rear fender lips were already rolled up to 45+ degrees, so that got me thinking…
Now waiting on these massive beauties to arrive from the UK. Edit: *in Morgan Freeeman voice: Little did he know he would never see those wheels, because they had tires on them… and used tires can’t be imported* I don’t want to slam it so I will probably do the ST coilovers this time.

Yeah. Very oh my. 19x10 et22 (which on LCI would be like et30) From what I’ve researched it requires a fender roll to avoid scrubbing but otherwise should be no issue. And since they are already rolled I don’t have to feel bad about it, lol. Fronts are easy-peasy at 18x8.5 et38. Might need an 5-8 mm spacer. My wife says the Hamanns are too plain looking. But I’ve liked them and AC Schnitzer type 2/3 monoblock for 20+ years. ACS are far too flat on e36/46/90 fitment and et 15 is too poke, and type 95 poke too much in the front, so these beauties will fill the bill.

Yeah... those 19s are a no for me. Way too big of a diameter, especially with the stock brakes, and the design doesn't really fit the e9x. There are OEM low ET rims from the e60 that fit like the style 135 (18x8 et20), or just get one of the M3 style rims.
But to each their own, I guess. |

Totally agree with you about the stock brakes… It’ll be getting larger brakes at some point as well, the factory brakes are underwhelming in performance as well as undersized. would love to do f30 340mm brembos up front again and 336mm e9x 335 rears, I swapped the 340/330 f30 335 combo onto my f31 328d (factory 312/300) a few years ago and they were fantastic. But Daaaaaamn, I bought the entire f30 set, front and rear, calipers pads and drilled and slotted rotors 2 years ago for not much more than peopl3 want for jsut the front calipers now! But bigger brakes don’t play well with 17’s so wheels needed to come first.

Well since I’m gonna be in there anyway doing the ST coilovers and PB adjustment might as well do brake upgrade at same time.
Just ordered some 340mm f30 brembo calipers and f30 340mm drilled and slotted rotors like I had retrofitted to my f31d for the front and 335ix 336mm calipers and drilled slotted rotors for the rear. Just need to grab another can of the burnt copper paint and another clear so I can clean them up, polish out mold lines, then paint and bake them when they come in. Now if only I could find a lip I actually like for the pre LCi msport bumper, I’d be golden for both interior & exterior, for now. Let’s say it is stockish, I never truly leave any of my cars fully stock.

Got fronts done and ride height played with.
AWD is way easier than videos of RWD, just 16mm swaybar endlink, 18mm pinchbolt bracket nut (and 10mm headlight sensor on drivers side) knuckle literally drops right off, then undo the top 13s and assembly drops right out, no need to undo anything else I was roughly 26.3-26.5 inch with stock suspension. At 26” (13 threads) 2+finger gap, ride was exceptional (firm but so well damped it seemed plush) , at 25” (7 threads) appearance was exceptional, no finger gap but felt like it was out of effective damper range. So I’m splitting it at 25.5” and 11 threads to bottom of adjuster. Ride is only fractionally less than at 13 turns. Tomorrow I’ll take hatch area apart to do the rear… Also my 335ix rear calipers came in today as well, so I’ll start cleaning them up and getting them painted Burnt copper for when the 336mm rotors arrive next week.

Sorry no pics on the ground. Wasn’t a priority.
Unlike my f31d which was tucking tire up front on kw SC, this one looks stock. Boring even. It’s just enough drop as I have it set to get rid of the reverse rake /taildragger illusion without impairing actual ride quality. In fact it greatly improved it over the worn OEM front struts. I’m pleased, but if I was looking for similar “sporty” ride height as my f31 i wouldn’t be.

The top nuts on the front struts worked slightly loose/ settled and that was the poor ride, once I checked them and retorqued, I was able to go lower with no ride quality impact.
Now at 24.75” rear, 25” front. Lina wanted to pose, lol.

Well these finally arrived as did all the rotors.
The real question becomes, will they fit under the 17s? Or will I have to wait for the wheels to arrive to install them. Guess we will have to do a mock up and bolt one in place and try sliding the wheel over it to find out. Should be no issue on the 336 rear calipers so those will go on first. But first they need a good cleaning, masking, and painting. Been there done that a few years ago! Too bad no one makes the bmw lettering, don’t want brembo on these nor ///M.

This was my last set I did for the f31d.
Hopefully these come out just as nice.

Well, I can’t file a claim till tomorrow, but I heard from the seller that the HAMANN HM5 will not be arriving. Apparently because they had tires on them, they can’t be imported to the US.
Nothing else really appeals to me at present. Or at least I’m not willing to spend 4-6k for anything that remotely appeals to me, and nothing else has those massive 3-5” inch lips. So looking the opposite direction, no lip concave, While I like style 95 the fronts poke too damn much to make them an option. And honestly you have to ride low for them to look good. Dunno. Kind of at a standstill here. MRR makes a super concave dished wheel similar to a style 95 allied the hr3… But going from Hamanns to MRR is like (to quote Shakira) trading in your Ferrari for a twingo.

I said screw it, bought style 95s refinished in bronze, and my favorite 235/265 dws06+
The style 95s are already on the way with fedex and estimated for Thursday, aka tomorrow.. as are the tires.

Need more low in the front, and haven’t done upgrade brake install, maybe next weekend I can do that for fathers day.
But damn, I love these staggered bronze 95s. I just wish they were et30 or et32 fronts instead of et24. No rubbing with the family in it either. Have to do some research on toe vs camber specs, cause I used to run 2-3 degrees per side on my e34it rear with no issue once I did kmac adjusters to fix toe but I forget what I had the toe set to to balance it out. I’m happy with the camber it has front at present to be honest. Also signs’s not wrong…
