Shiv,

Gotta ask (as I'm sure many others would like to know )...

What boost psi are you running with all your mods, race gas, and race map? 16psi, 16.5psi, 17psi??? Just interested in knowing the limits of the oem stock turbos.

i'll take a guess at this....he has an LSD in the car, so he's going to be able to spin both tires during the burnout. I have not tried it w/ my 335, but my guess is that w/ the open diff, your going to spin the right rear tire once you get on the brake in the waterbox. You might start off spinning both when you release the clutch, but as soon as you apply brake to stop forward movement, the left rear will stop as well.

just a guess.

Until the maps are released, this is going to be a little secret Can't give the competition too much info now, can we?

This raises something that I've wondered about.....I think you would be foolish to take a 335 with stock tires through the water box (I'm sure nobody does) but what if you have stock tires with a lsd? or what if you have drag's with no lsd? I've always thought you should never drive through the water unless you have drags and lsd.

That's a good question. I always though the water box was for those tires that could/needed to get real hot and sticky in order to get max grip. I don't think any non-R compound street tire can do this. So that's why it's best to avoid the water unless you want to clean off your tires and do a burn-out.

As for an LSD, I'd say that it is 100% necessary if you want to get both tires sticky and up-to-temp with a burn-out. Otherwise, you'll be spinning just one tire. We will try mounting my drag radials to ktdw's open diff'd 135 the next time we go to the track and we'll see just how possible it is to do a good burn out.

If it's simply not possible to light up both tires (which I suspect it is), then a LSD may in fact be a necessary ingrediant to getting a 6MT to cut 1.6-1.7s 60' times. If all it can do is 1.8-1.9s times, running 11s may require even more power.

And the 135 has that undefeatable brake diff. I wonder how it will react to DRs?

I do it. I do a a burnout for a few seconds to toss any rocks and pebbles stuck in my street tires out. Not an actual burnout by any means though

you dont need to roll through the waterbox to do that though, in fact you should not. Just roll around it, lay down some rubber to clean off your tires and get to the line.

I'll let you know this coming Saturday. cardcounter (quickest street driven BMW in the US...1000whp+) is lending me some of his Nitto DR's for the track day. I have an open diff w all the same mods as Shiv's car, minus the LSD and his current race map.

I have a feeling getting both tires up to optimal temps will be impossible and i'm sure my clutch will hate me, but i'm going to try.

I'll be sure to report back as fully as possible

You don't want to run r-comps at the track. Yes, they're sticky, but the sidewall is too stiff to get a good footprint. You want more flex. If you are going to buy tires for the track, then use drag radials.

I tried running my autox r-comps on my E36 at Capitol Raceway and i didn't do any better compared to street tires. At least with the street tires, i could drop the pressure on them.

he's an xi, so he's going to have to either drive all the way to the track on 4 drag tires, or somehow trailer them there and swap at the track. thats the ONLY bad thing I can think of for him to complain about when it comes to the xi drag racing.

This is very exciting. If the car is making this insane power with the current TD03 turbos imagine what larger turbo(s) can do? To bad weather in Chicago is now in the 30's and 40's and tracks are closing. I would love to see what I would run with this map and 104 octane once I get the car back.

Once again Shiv, great job!

thanks guys. I think we will definitely see these cars hit 120mph traps on stock turbos very soon. That is insane and simply unbelievale just 1yr ago.
