Yeah..
At first I thought this was a really tough decision, but now i'm looking at it in terms of what you get with your money.
The M3 is a GREAT car, no doubt...but for the same price of getting a 335I, you'd have to get a used 2004, possibly 2005 with miles already on it. We all know that an M3 is a hell of a performer and is the more sporty of the two. I'll even give the nod to the M3 as far as exterior looks/styling. However, the 335i is almost just as good of a performer.. The 335i is clearly superior in interior styling/amenities..and that is where the value really comes into play. It really comes down to what you want as a driver.. |

335 all the way. The E46 M3 looks dated and is getting very long in the tooth. Isn't the E46 M3 due to be replaced in about a year? The E46 M3 looks like a 10 year old car to me. Wait... The headlight/grill design of the E46 M3 dates back to 1998.
That's not the way I would like to start a relationship with a "NEW" car. You will also miss out on stuff like: 1) MP3 playback 2) Logic 7 3) rear ac/heat vents 4) Bluetooth 5) Adaptive headlights 6) Better fuel economy 7) Better all around drivability. Like I said before: The E46 M3's better days are behind it while the E92 335's better days are in front on it. As nice as the E46 M3 is/was, the car is yesterday's news. I'd choose the 335i over the M3 even if they were priced the same. |

For the money the 335i is a clear winner.
I wouldn't like buying a used performance car who knows if the owner was some rich abusive teenager or middle aged man who pampered it? If you're going to get an M3...I'd get a new one (they're still around if you look and arent picky). That's if you want to own a piece of history and keep it for a while and are absolutely in love with the E46 styling. I suggest leasing a 335 for 2 years and then get an E92 M3 (If you want more power) |

For those who say M3... why did you buy e90? You could have bought a nice used m3 for the same price as your 330's....

If it were a 335i vs. a new (unused) M3; I'd take the M3.
As someone mentioned in another thread, you're getting a vehicle at the end of it's production run. In essence all the kinks have been worked out, and it's the best it'll ever be. With the introduction of any new vehicle, there's bound to be some speed bumps along the way. Not saying there's going to be issues with the 335; just that the likelyhood is higher. At the same time, my family's had nothing but problems with the only two used vehicles we've purchased... kinda scared me away from buying used. So new 335 vs. used (possibly abused) M3; 335 all the way.

For now, 335 is a slightly better choice
However, if BMW give $3,000 rebate like they did to the E36M3 at the end of the production time (many people paid new E36M3 for $3,000 below invoice).....it will be a better value new E46M3 with 6years/100000 miles warranty. |

Just traded in a 2004 M3 for a 335i because i was bored..... Imagine that. No im just kidding. It was a lot of thinking that got me to this decision but i felt i made the right one by going with the 335i. Don't have someone choose your car for you, its your car. Each car will have their pros and cons. The only way to know is to go test drive both and then you will know which one to get

How about 07' 335 vs 04' E46 M3 convertible(with 25k,Certified pre-owned)?
If they cost roughtly the same,should i go for the E46 M3 cab? FYI:I have owned an E46 325ci for 3 years,and I bought my E90 325i last july. I have test drived both 335i and E46 M3 cab,and i love both of them. |

I'd go 335, go with aftermarket springs, sways, and struts, put high performance summer tires on it, chip it, get aftermarket exhaust, debadge... and smile

... even test drove the 335i, however much fast it seems, the overall M car feel/power/handling is exceptionally better than the e92 too, IMO

I'd definitely go with the e92 or wait for the new M3.
Why would you want to spend all that money on a performance cars that's used and was probably driven the hell out of? I don't care what kind of warranty it has, it still sucks if you have to take it into the shop. And there's no denying that the bodystyle is old and on its way out. I wouldn't want to buy myself a new car only to have it look old as soon as I get it. If M is important to you, wait til the new one comes out. Otherwise just get the 335. |

Just drove a 335i today. I would go for the 335i... 335i, 3.0 litre 300 hp vs M3's 3.4 litre 333 hp. The extra 12K isn't worth the extra 33hp to me. Plus you have so many newer and fun options. Nav, bluetooth, xenons, start off assist, fob, comfort access, colors combos and so much more... for so much less.

After testing the new e92 335 today I would have to vote for the '04 M3. The coupe was quick no doubt. However it lacked the satisfaction the M3 rewards you with every time you get behind the wheel. The split personality of the 3.2 is what I loved about my M3s. Up to 5000 RPM it was quick. After 5000...heaven. Anyone who has owned them knows exactly what I am talking about. E46 M3 and E92 335...two different animals. Drive em both, then make your decision.

What about an M3 now and then the E92 M3 when it arrives.

maybe you're an exception -- i doubt everyone here that has stated to get the M is in the same situation as yourself. Regardless, I think the OP has heard enough of both sides now to make his choice. He just needs to decide now if he will choose to be driven by his heart, or his mind.
