Because I own 2010 model year 328i though, I do believe, it is lighter than stated in specs. Weight numbers did not change between 2009 and 2010, but a lot of things became not standard in 2010: Sunroof (estimated 35lbs savings) Hood insulator (est 2lbs savings) 4 speakers less (est 17 lbs savings) prewiring, drink cooler trank storage cover, amplifier, ashtray, cargo nets, and whatever else brought me to estimated ~60lbs in weight savings min. |

Read my prior post 0-60 is about the only time these cars are really close stock, at 100 there is over 1 second different which equates to a several car length difference like over 5. You are right about autocross these cars would be very close in performance due to such low speeds in xcross. On a full track where braking matters much more at higher speeds the larger brakes and the extra power in the 330 would be very evident. 328i manual 0-100 mph - 16.4 seconds 1/4 Mile - 14.8 @ 95 mph 50-70 mph top gear - 10.2 seconds 330i manual 0-100 mph - 15.3 seconds 1/4 mile - 14.3 @ 98 mph 50-70 mph top gear - 8.6 seconds

- All cars need exactly 0 seconds to reach 0 mph ( Delta0 == 0 ). - At 60 mph they'll have some Delta60 difference in time to reach, - At 100 mpg the delta would be Delta100 > Delta60 and so on. |

well, i just picked up a used 530 manifold with acuators... i am going to try and install over the xmas break. i am going to do a dynolicious run before and after.
i havent yet decided on software, but as a first step, this is going to quantify what gains are to be had with just the manifold. i have done 2 runs with the dynolicious. first with traction control enabled gave me 7.16sec to 60. second with all traction off gave me 6.7. these are the ONLY two timed accel runs i have ever done(with my full winter tires, no less), so i am pretty sure it will improve dramatically with a few runs under the belt, and even more with the summers on. although 17" 225's weigh much less that 19" 255's(rears), i am certain the traction issues hurt. i was doing it behind the lululemon store while the g/f was in there, so i am sure i can shave some time off that!!! lol. and dont worry, it was in an industrial park setting on a weekend... NO traffic or cross streets. so i think the dynolicious will give a solid baseline. as for the 530i manifold, as far as i can tell, it is the SAME as a 330i. unless they make two different manifolds with the same part number, this is correct. will keep ya all posted. MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!!! |

super scientific results: it was damp and sh#tty, and traction sucked, but i think i picked up a 10th to 60 with traction control on, and without couldn't seem to break into the 6's. lol.
but it seems to be punchier. so far just the manifold, and pulled the charcoal filter. cdn 328i with charcoal filter... go figure? hopefully will find someone local to do an AA tune or something similar. oh, and i guess old fashioned port injection doesn't have carbon build up!!! just turned 80,000km: |

Update:
This thing has got quite a bit more zip in the upper 2/3s of the tach. Had the TC off and was doin mad "TopGear" style powerslides(in the wet)!!! Lolol Anyways, it has been torrential rain. Can't wait for a decent dry day!!! Pretty sure a 0-100mph will show some meaningful gains. Too bad I didn't rip a 0-100 off behind lululemon!!! *jk* Install was fairly easy, technically, but was pretty much a pain in the ass. The manifold came with both actuators, no oil seperator, and had to swap a few brackets. Other than that, a true bolt on. Now, what about tunes... |

sorry , didn't take many pics... i was using a DIY, so i figured it's already done:
http://www.zpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=455180 but there are a few differences in details. step2: you do not need to remove the cross brace. the plastic valve cover is a royal PITA. you need to unclip the wiring going across and over the valve cover at the aft end, and pull them forward to reach the 2 allen screws on the aft end of the cover, which are under the 'brow'. 1/4 turns with the tips of the fingers. it is tight and i scratched the sh#t out of my arms. step 6: i undid the oil seperator lines once the manifold was free and pulled up a bit. i was able to reach in past the vacuum pump and grab the hoses and undo them. be patient. the e90 also has a different set up with the oil seperator and lines, but where the lines actually attach are similar. i have seen some manifolds with only one vent line going into the manifold, however, both my oem and 530i manifold had two, with no issues of fitment. i also removed the throttle body at this point. final step: didn't have the brake line running though the manifold, however, i think i undid it right at the front to ease access. iirc, it runs up and over the alternator. the manifold came out in an up and back motion. there is also a metal bracket on the bottom the the manifold that has two torx screws holding it on... it holds the wiring harness where the disa control leads come from. it is a pain to reach. use patience, and never force the plastic connectors. undestand them first, then undo them. breaking them sucks. and WATCH YOUR TORQUES!!! most of the fasteners are aluminum, so stripping and damaging hardware will be very easy. It's really unfortunate that most E90's have sunroofs. I'm tall and it just takes away from headroom. If i knew that 2010 E90's could be had without a sunroof i would have searched a bit longer.... but i bought my '08 with 27k and 6spd MT ZSP's are hard enough to come by in the pre-owned world. Also, mine is a 10/07 build which has the bigger brakes AND is a ULEV n52 without the added SULEV smog equipment that adds weight and complexity. Safe to say i'm very happy with my E90....but no sunroof would have made it sooo close to being perfect. |
