Where he was picking up his daughter, how much his gun is worth, his name. Is the value of the handgun really important to the story?! For the sake of sanity, you can't walk around for the rest of your life with senses and reactions set at defcon 1. What will most likely happen is you'll give someone an exit would the size of a plate because someone was trying to wipe a huge spider off your shoulder.

I think the key here is situational awareness, this type of thing is much more likely to happen in certain areas, when you go into those areas or circumstances you take extra precautions. In other words if you are walking down the street by yourself and you see a group of (how can I say this a in a PC way?) people like the ones in the video, maybe you should be on alert. In contrast if you are walking down the street and you see a little old lady walking her dog, or a group of men in suits you probably have nothing to worry about.

So what you're saying is beware of (as politically correct as I can) African American Adolescent Teen Males especially when they are in a group? Observing a trend and identifying a clear pattern does not make someone a racist, it makes them a realist. And you are twisting what I said into something that it is not. racism is ignorant and deplorable, and I am against it. Based on the video all of the perpetrators of these attacks have been young black males, this is just an observation. In contrast, it would be racist to assert that this type of behavior is characteristic of all young black men, and that is not what I said, nor believe!

So true. Just an FYI that this problem also exists in Baltimore. Johns Hopkins Hospital is plagued by uncaught black youngsters attacking hospital personnel at random. So scary because a victim could die from a broken neck or cerebral hemorrhage just by falling head first onto the pavement and the likelihood of no one getting caught and be held responsible is absolute. We aren't even allowed to carry pepper sprays. So sad.

Wow that sounds horrible, it's really unbelievable that they won't even allow you guys to carry pepper spray, that's crazy! Hopefully they can improve the security in the surrounding areas.

That's just it though, anyone who trains to CC a gun knows that it is just as much about mental preparation and putting yourself in a certain state of mind as being good with your weapon. That's why we train under stress when possible. I can guarantee that CC'ers here to include myself are *quite* aware when out and about. We haven't lost our instincts either, you know, as if our earplugs never come out and we see everything through amber lenses. Two different types of defenses (which aren't mutually exclusive).

Also, what are you going to do with your fists here that can't be done with a gun? What if there were two of them? Three? Four? What if they have a gun of their own? What if you're in a gas station that some goons decide to hold up? Are you going to drink a protein shake, tear off your MMA shirt and come over the counter at them with your "natural defenses?"
