Thanks for the info.
This made it very easy. I called my dealer and got the production ID number. It turns out the car will arrive 1 week later than expected. Bummer but better to know now than later.

Well my car finally shows up on the CN tracking page.
Arrived at port of Halifax May 1st and was loaded on a train May 7th. Not too bad I suppose, I expected it may be longer than that due to the CN labour disruption contributing to a glut of cars at the port. |

It's not fair... Why can't I track my car? Instead I have to rely on my salesman who doesn't exactly volunteer information unless I prod him. As it stands now, according to the last status printout he faxed me (weeks ago) it is to be delivered next week (20) but when asked about a date he doesn't know.
Sounds odd, since you guys seem almost to have GPS locator on the darn car

Hello,
My car boarded a ship the other day and is headed over. The problem is I can't find any info on the ship name of vessel number: Vessel: Franconia Voyage number: 156A I live in Pittsburgh, PA, so I assume the ship would be WW. But can't find anything. Can someone throw me a bone here? Thanks, Mark |

Moses & Sons were still working in the yard at the foot Pearl Street where in 1874 they built the 1,462-ton ship Franconia for themselves, her master, Captain William M. Otis of Brunswick, and others Her frame was entirely of white oak and was said to have been one of the best ever put up in Bath; she was rated A-1 for 11 years. The Franconia was constructed by the following master workmen - Benjamin Small, one of the oldest and best of workmen, as master builder; Alden M. Potter, master joiner, though a young man had had much experience and his work only need to be seen to be appreciated; Samuel S. Jordan, blacksmith; John Clifford, fastener; David H. Merritt, caulker; Dain & Wiggin, sparmakers; and Frank A. Plamer, rigger. Baker Franconia was inbound to the Golden Gate in a thick fog. By dead reckoning she should have been off Point Reyes, when, without warning, the vessel stuck Middle Rock, and land was spied all around. With 15 minutes she found herself "hard and fast on a sandy beach in a bight on the northwest side of the island." The captain [Capt. William M. Otis], his wife, the entire crew of 21, and all their effects were safely landed and kindly cared for by the Government employees of the island of South Farallon, the scene of the wreck. The cause of the wreck was ascribed to the fog whistle, which was not heard either before or after the accident. The nature of Franconia's cargo was unspecified, but it was noted that it was valuable, worth $250,000, and consigned to John Rosenfeld. The reports received in San Francisco indicated that "nothing can be done to save the ship and she has started to break up... and portions of her cargo were going ashore...." The next day the newspaper reported that a good deal of salvage, probably including the ship's sails, rigging, and spars would be secured, and that "the purchaser can, without doubt, if he works to advantage, make a good and quick turn on his investment." Franconia is a K Line vessel and left Southampton, UK on 5/9 and is due in Charleston, SC 5/20 & Baltimore, MD 5/22.
The only 2 ports in the east coast that have VPC are NY & SC. Doesn't make sense that they would send it to SC for a PA delivery or send it to Baltimore, truck it up to NY and then to Pittsburgh. Are you sure you are on the Franconia? Did you verify this info with your CA?

Thats what they told me. I will ask again to be sure.
Thanks for the info. I agree it doesn't make sense. However, someone else who ordered a BMW said it was sent to SC then trucked it to PA. Thanks again, Mark |

Just as a clarification, generally it takes up to 1 week to be recognized in the "Owner's Center" once you get your VIN?!
Got my VIN today, but unable to log into Owner's Center :-( |

you should be able to login to the Owners Circle about 2-3 days after you get a confirmed production number even before your car is scheduled to be produced..

unfortunatly its all scheduled by the VPC's and there is no information after it reaches the VPC...They don't answer to anyone...Just have to sit tight and wait for a phone call from dealer...Really sucks...but just think the journey is almost over...Just look at the forums and appreciate the position that you are in now with your car delivered to the U.S..Some people just got there are in production!!!!

Is there any information anywhere on where your car is likely to be offloaded based upon where its destination is? For instance, if it is destined for Ohio, will it always be offloaded at NY, or Baltimore, or Charleston, or can it vary, or what?

East Coast deliveries are offloaded in either NY or Charleston, that's where BMWNA has their VPC. I've heard OHIO bound cars have been destined for SC, but if you check on the WW shipping site, it will tell you where your final destination will be.

This thread wavers a bit on which shipping company will be transporting cars bound for the west coast (Seattle, in my case). Does anybody know who is currently being used?
Thanks, BoB |

I don't know if this has been posted somewhere earlier in the thread, but the OP makes it sound as if East Coast deliveries always come from WW. But in fact, I found out this weekend that my 328xi left Bremerhaven on a K-Line ship, Western Highway, on 6/5 and is destined for S.C. on 6/21.
The traking of cargo seems to require a bill of lading, which I don't have for mine. Otherwise, the website is not that helpful. www.kline.com - msc

Does anyone know how long it takes on average for a ship to get to the west coast? My ship left last week some time (dunno the exact day).

I have no idea what ship it's on. Is there a way I can find out without contacting my dealership? I hate to bug the guy so much, I email him a new question every 3-4 days for the past month.

Your dealership is the best bet. They have this Dealer Communications System (DCS) site they go to and it shows them exactly what ship it is on, the bill of lading number, dep and arr dates, etc etc.
