Force us used in approximately .08% of police interactions, and use of force is a broad description from grounding/control, hard impact weapons, soft strikes, handcuffing, OC spray, CEW, up to and including deadly force which on average is 29 per year in Canada over the last 25 years. Deadly force is used in approximately .00000125% of the police interactions in Canada annually.

It is with a heavy heart that I share the fact we lost another one today. One of our Palmdale Deputies was ambushed in his patrol car. He succumbed to a gunshot wound to the head. It has been a rough 10 days.

I forgot to tell you guys & gals about the latest level of ridiculousness. My department is piloting a program in which we essentially FaceTime a motorist during or prior to conducting a traffic stop.........



....in a effort to make them feel more comfortable before we approach the vehicle.




This is where we are in modern policing. It's so ridiculous that it makes me want to leave patrol altogether (...although that is the plan anyway) and never look back.

That's dumb, I agree. But how would that even work, practically speaking? How can you possibly get everyone's phone number ahead of time? There's got to be enough "my number changed" or "this isn't my car" type of people on the road that it's a silly idea and other than checking the license plate and what info is associated with it, I'm at a loss how you could even facetime someone before you approach. And what if they have an android, no smartphone, or no phone?

Even if they had my number, it wouldn't ring. I usually have my ringer turned off and the only calls that come through are from a few select people.

Sounds like entrapment to me, making someone use their "smart" phone while behind the wheel where it is illegal in many states.....
