Bugatti Chiron uses 3D printed calipers, however I don't think that component is stressed as much as wheels.

This is fantastic.
I read through the thread, but haven't seen it posted yet. What is the weight?

Yeah no thanks......just make an FF-01 that can take a New England pothole, because mine didn't survive.

On it! We'll make them busier so that next time around we'll see double the 'cleaning' comments

These wheels actually exceed our current forged standard so despite what it may look like, this wheel isn't fragile. |

Looks like McLaren uses the 5x112 bolt pattern, so if you need to see how they fit a VDub, I'm available.

When 3d printing titanium becomes commoditized you could download a cad file and send it to the stop and they would make it for you. I'd imagine prices would come down enough that they would be quite a bit cheaper than the steel forged ones coming from HRE. |

But seriously, downloading and printing your own wheels from Bucky the 14 year old from Bakersfield sounds great and all, but I think I'll continue to trust engineers and companies with insurance and warranties when it comes to wheels. I'm a bicyclist and have seen a number of catastrophically failed carbon parts from "the same plant that the big guys use" to trust whackadoodle design. |

Looks like a work of art as a stand alone, but it doesn't really match the McLaren in my opinion.
I see a lot of people asking about the weight of the wheel. My guess would be if anything, this wheel is slightly lighter than a comparable aluminum wheel. It looks like there's a decent amount of titanium being used for the face of the wheel, and Titanium is heavier than aluminum. But the rim of the wheel looks to be made almost entirely of carbon fiber so I guess that'd offset the heavier weight of Ti vs Al. |

Looks wild and is definitely a great proof of concept but looks like a nightmare to clean.
Also, i'm with the group that thinks the design doesn't flow well with the lines of the mclaren, it would look more natural on a car with sharper lines. |

Now that it's common to build your own Swiss watch (e.g. www.121time.com, or if you've got a spare $15K https://www.ochsundjunior.swiss/) I wonder if we'll get to the stage with 3D where you'd be able to build a bespoke wheel? Perhaps using a set of options for the rim, spokes, centre, colours, finish etc?

Apologies OP~ 🙏🏼 as is
Wheels are usually trending slightly along its path ...bbs y spoke or mesh variants etc. But..then, is the split spoke dead ? Cleaning concerns again I suggest proper - pressure washer and regular ' maintenance '

This process produces less waste vs forging? I am all for making 3D printed anything if it also brings environmental benefits. Very interesting concept!
