Corrected my steering today.
I updated my tired old suspension doing the work myself. Front and rear "M" arms, new tie rods, some aftermarket adjustable toe links for the rear etc., etc..
Bilstein B8 shocks and lowering springs. New engine mounts, replaced cracked subframe. When I finished the work I did an extension of the tie rods by 3 1/2 turns to compensate for the differences between standard and M components. Car drove pretty straight and steered well. A couple of weeks ago I took it to a well know alignment shop in Kearney Mesa and got a 4 wheel alignment. I let them know of the work done and needed a good alignment. After the job i noticed the wheel was about 10 or so degrees to the right while driving straight. yesterday the car threw the following errors: DSC malfunction, DBC malfunction, Start-off assistance inactive. I marked my tie rods thread position and reduced the length of the driver's side tie rod and extended the passenger side tie rod. I did this in increments between testing on a flat parking lot. It took 1 1/4 turns on both sides for the wheel to track true when in the centered position. While I was testing the errors went away. Quite a good thread. |
