This is weird, i have a MAF code thrown even though the CEL doesn't pop.
The maf is brand new from an e-bay seller, came in a brand new box VDO siemens, what gives? I shouldn't get an error thrown with a new maf.

That is weird!! And you are using a normal paper air filter, not an oiled filter?

Will do, i forgot to mention even though i am 99% sure it has nothing to with it my intake boot that goes into the air filter box is broken so it doesn't connect with the filter box very well, picture below: Where he pries it out in the picture mine is torn so it doesn't connect well with it, could that lead to a vacuum leak?

There's no problem it that part of the intake is damaged or leaking, it's from the MAF sensor to the intake manifold that cannot have any vacuum leaks, so after the air filter where the MAF is located, anything before that it not going to cause any issues since that is not yet measured.

To be fair i doubt it has anything to do with it. What have you changed so far? Is it throwing any codes?

I must say, I have wondered about the possibility of heatsoak affecting the MAF, the air box gets really hot if the car is standing still, or has stood for a while. But, considering how much air gets breathed in when the engine is making power, chances are that it's not as bad as one would think.

Have you also checked the Eccentric shaft sensor for any oil residue? Also, i would recommend replacing the solenoids instead of cleaning them, they're pretty cheap.

Try taking it out, it's a 5 minute job to just unplug it and inspect for oil inside of the connector or the plug, if so you can either clean it with some compressed air/cotton swabs but you will need to replace the gasket. The ESS itself is pretty expensive.

Rceived an airmass code....the MAF is brand new but at least we're getting somewhere.
What else could cause an airmass error? I also changed the two o2 sensors PRE-cat, should i also change the post cat ones? DISA valve?

Any solution to this? My N52B30 is doing pretty much exactly what you are describing. I have semi-given up on it being a vehicle that I can trust, and was assuming the motor was going (along with a whole 'nother list I don't want to get into), but if you get some luck, I'd love to know what happened!

I'm still trying to chase mine down. So far: ESS, plugs, coils, cleaned solenoids and check valves. No codes to speak of except for one MAF code 2000km ago, so I just ordered a new MAF.
If the MAF doesn't fix it I'll be taking it to the dealer or an indy. |

I've taken it to four different mechanics, the last one said it's an internal issue with the engine perhaps vanis/valvetronic. I'm pretty much considering selling the car as there are no good mechanics in Romania for Valvetronic or Vanos, everyone here has a diesel...pretty much given up hope

Would the ECC cause 2D06 - Air Mass System? It had little to no oil when i checked it and i did change the gasket/ clean the connector and sensor with contact cleaner.

Maybe old pressure differential sensor can cause the problem?
