Most well tuned 335i's (and I mean w/ just a piggyback, some with a bit more) are running low-mid 12's @ 111mph+. I'm not sure what the E90/92 M3's are running the 1/4 mi., but the word on the street is that many tuned 335i's have killed E90/92 M3's into the higher speeds (so the M3's 8,600rpm redline doesn't seem to matter that much). Yes, the M3 is a much better handling car with it's M suspension and of course has the V8 growl, but a 335i would yield similar handling with a set of coilovers and sways. The M3's V8 growl sounds sweet but also comes with the extra cost of burning more fuel at $4.35+/gal. (and climbing) here in the U.S...thanks, but I already have one vehicle that gets 13mpg city / 18mpg hwy...my wife's MB GL450 SUV.

Either way, both the 335i (tuned or not) and the M3 are fine sports cars at a decent price. Also, I really like the idea of getting a DCT dual clutch tranny and updated iDrive (my iDrive is ok, but it could be much better, imho) for the 335i...I'm very excited to add those options in my next 335i.

btw -- "$15k set aside for mods on the 335i" is quite excessive, imho. A majority of modded 335i's have cost the owners $1.5k - $5k in mods...period. I'm not sure what you were going to do with your 335i (maybe upgraded turbos or something? ) but that's a lot of dough for modding the 335i.
Your ignorance is astounding. It's as if you know nothing about either of the cars. The M will trounce the 335i in triple digit speeds. There's absolutely no question about that. There are also very very few tuned 335s running mid 12s. I don't know what words you listen to on the street but you should stop becase you sound absolutely ridiculous.

It seems like most heavy track users are able to push the 335 cooling system past its design limit and into limit mode.

I am personally going planning to bypass the 335 when my 328 lease is up and either go with a M3 or another equivalent track oriented vehicle.

This whole 335 v M3 debate is a bit silly because it all depends on what the user wants out of the car
