I have one and I absolutely love it. Get a Rubicon if you are not planning to mod plus it comes with a few useful things you can retain even if you do mod. As others have mentioned before, there are so many things you can buy for this thing its ridiculous. You can easily end up spending 100K all in on a wrangler.
I also have a a G63 and that thing is in a different class all by itself. However, I would say this; it is remarkable how similar they are in the way they are designed. Here is a pic of the wrangler and good luck. |

I just sold my 2005 Wrangler Unlimited. I drove it for about 3 years, being my first car I loved it however it got old very fast. Like you said, there's very little comfort. Taking road trips were loud and uncomfortable. Living in AZ means they get very hot sitting outside unless you get a hard top. It had a broken computer, broken radiator, many other smaller broken plastic parts. Probably spent over $3,000 in repairs over the 3 years I had it.
In short, I wouldn't recommend a Wrangler unless you are planning to turn it into a rock crawler, or you actually NEED it because you go camping and hiking very often. That being said, there are much better AWD vehicles out there. To me, a Jeep Wrangler is a toy. Not a driver's car by any means. Hope this helps. |

Yeah I would definitely NOT be getting a Wrangler if I had to take it on road trips or had a long commute. My commute is just SO short now that I can afford to get something impractical. We have a Grand Cherokee that my wife drives and that the kids are always in so we always take that on road trips (where it really shines, imo).

Short commute, impractical? How about a Caterham or Ariel instead? Or a Morgan 3 Wheeler (of death)?

Do it! I am actually a 4Runner guy and love mine to death, but my gf has the jeep itch and I love to mod stuff, so I'm actually looking for ways to add one to the stable for her.
I can't believe how pricey they are!! But again they seem like so much fun. And f*** what anyone says about a lightbar. I had a 40" bright white and a 20" amber on my Raptor, and I miss those lightbars every single day.

My first car was a 1998 4Runner (manual). It took an absolute BEATING from me because it was a lease... then my dad bought it out... oops. The thing ran to 340k+ before they donated it last year. Still started right up!
Regarding price - go on Truecar, you can get them for 7% below invoice. I know Major World in Long Island City will honor that pricing.

Yeah I also have two kids and they are sometimes (rarely) in my car so I do require a back seat. I've already had an Exige so that itch has been scratched.

There are a few things to consider. I believe if you get a 4x4, use it to its full potential, which Wrangler is meant for. I see too many 4x4 trucks and Jeeps on the road and you can tell the driver has never been off road with it. No point on having one just to look pretty down the road but not willing to have a few scratches.
I owned a few 4x4s in my life, CJ5, Landcruiser, Tahoe, Tacoma, just to name a few. Sure, I kept them clean as possible but was never afraid to use them for rock crawling and wheeling. Any chance I got to get them dirty and climb, I did. With that said, get it, find a rock or trails and go on a adventure then cruising on the road with your Armor All still shining on your tires. |

I have had a 90 YJ, an 84 CJ7, and a 98 TJ. They ride awful, no security, and the transmission will implode itself - but it's so fun to cruise with the top off on a nice day. It's a GREAT second vehicle. I will never have one as my DD again. I would love to have this one back. Last edited by SLOWER; 07-27-2016 at 03:48 PM.. |

I still like the Jeep idea. My sisters had a few and I've debated buying the four door a few times. |

Drove a '94 Wrangler for three months. It left me stranded on the side of the road four times in three months. I parked it and we shot it with a .38 many, many times. My Jeep experience was "notgood".

I literally just traded 2015 Wrangler on my X1. Wrangler is a blast but in the end my crazy lower back and much highway driving did me in. Around town and below 60MPH it's great fun. As long as you know what you are signing up for go for it. Jeep Jamboree at Badlands Offroad Park was one of the most fun things I ever did. Amazing just how capable a stock wrangler is off road and conversely why it is a battering ram in other situations.
I think everyone should try it, I did not fall in love, some will but very glad I enjoyed it for a year. |
