ya my thoughts exactly - i would think the tunes will still work (maybe need some tweaking, but still easier than the n55)

so just consider this BMWs cooling package our engines deserved in the first place

Doesn't do away completely with throttle body...the TB is still there to close during emergency (limp mode)...but during normal operation, all control of air into the cylinders is from the valvetronic actuated valve lift.

ya n55 is a different animal completely - i know weve got the best tuners in the world on this forum but this will be a challenge for them on a whole new level

I just believe the new N55 will be as non-tunable as the other BMW naturally aspirated engines like the N52 by using piggybacks. Very little power can be extracted out of it because the ECU will be aware of signal altering. But with a flash, I think it will be tunable. And I haven't seen an un-breakable software system yet, I suppose flashes will come about 3 months after the launch...

Good point...I dont know what the exact drivetrain loss is either...but you are probably right, its probably not as much as 70 hp. Probably more like 10-15%? If it was 15% and the new 335is is a true 322 bhp (and not underrated by BMW), that is about 270whp. If it is underrated, maybe there's 310whp or in that neighborhood? That would be my best guess...I'm sure that's enough more power to feel good in the seat.

I still dont think the 335is is anywhere close to bmw M3 performance. dont understand why people keep saying this.

the 335is will probably dyno around 300WHP i would guess. it just seems like the bmw performance kit on the 335i with the bmw performance products also on it with a overboost feature.

The M3 is still wider, wider body, more agressive looking for sure even with the 335is new features, has LSD, and still has more power.

335i with Jb3 is more a M3 killer than this will ever be.

Now im wondering if this N54 will have even more tuning protection on it, and if Terry and Shiv can extract as much power as a regular N54. which im goign to guess yes.

And its a shame bmw isnt putting the N54 in the E90 anymore! N55 is going to be a PITA to tune and make as much good power as the N54 has come to this day!
Over-boost certainly should give more horsepower. HP will increase (mid-range) within the rpm parameters of over-boost. Overall HP will not increase of course.

This was the same with my previous 997 turbo. Porsche advertised the increased torque but did not mention that mid-range HP was increased; probably because the total HP was not.

BMW rates the current engine @ 300. It makes more power at the wheels than the factory claims considering drivetrain loss. Yes, as you indicated above, it is likely or at least possible that the new engine is also under-rated and is making closer to 350.

Claimed engine crank hp and dynoed WHP are entirely different things; as we all know. With that said, arguably the new engine would produce more WHP than its predecessor. Unless of course BMW chose to over-rate the N54 and accurately rate the N55. Time will tell the facts of course. I find it hard to believe that the new engine will not produce more real power.

Interesting, the 313s are 19"s but that release clearly says 18"s, in the past I thought when they had identical wheels in different sizes they each got a distinct "style number". They will still look fantastic in 18"s (and be a bit more practical for our POS Pennsylvania roads).

^ Not even close on that one.

+ LSD, close to 100 more hp, superior suspension and structual integrity, better brakes, far better quality of leather, better stereo, and on...

It's almost like saying that a GT3 is "basically" a C2S.

Only will buy if it comes in xDrive. I can get the performance package for my 335, and be similar to it in performance. I'll have a decision when my lease is up...

Lets hope they upgraded the fuel pumps for the 335is. How much do you think this will cost? It should be north of 50k

You guys are out of your minds if u are loading this 335is with the DCT... It will probably be 56k+. If I did not get my E92 m-sport 09' 335i and had the option now?

I would just pick up the M3 for a little more $, bare bone it, or get a slightly used one.

I seriously thought it was over price when I bought mine... Now this would just be over kill. Do yourseves a favor pick up a m3. I think my CA said he got one of his customers in a bare bone E92 m3 lease for about $650 month and he just paid the taxes. It was a test drive 08' E92 around this time last year.

Last years rates were insane as BMW unloaded the 08's. That same car would be well over $1k per month now- not even close.

^^^ Give it another month or 2. I think you can get one now for invoice... any m3 would just blow the new 335is out of the water in terms of status/looks/fun to driveness. I just feel bad when a m3 rolls by me, or parked next to my car cause they realize this is just a m3 wannabe
