I just got the letter from BMw asking me to schedule my car in for a HPFP replacement. I've failed my HPFP once in 48k miles. The first one failed at 24k miles and I've been fine ever since. Does anyone know if there is a expiration to this recall? I feel like I shouldn't mess with my car since it seems like i really don't have a problem..?

Besides which I am in the camp that says that all the HPFP's are prone to failure...it's not a question of 'if' but 'when'. IMO? Just do it. Good luck, Rick |

posted this in the original thread, but i just purchased a car that is a Oct. or Nov. 2007 build. its a 2008 335i coupe with iDrive. does my car have pre-29.2 software? or do i have the introduced lag software? i dont think the car has had any updates because it only has 11k miles on the odo right now. calling customer service to see if i can find out more on the history of the car i just purchased, but was wondering if anyone on here knew a quick answer. thanks.

I just bought my car off lease and part of the CPO inspection was to replace the HPFP. I never had a failure, no issues with long cranks, and no real sign that it might be failing. My SA told me that BMW is replacing the fuel pumps on n54 engines as cars come in for service.

It will be interesting if they will do anything to my car aside from the trim. Given the fact that BMWNA said my car is not included on the recall. |

BMW NA told my SA that the 933 pump that is in my car now is of the same HDP quality as the 446. The 933 with the new update better not fail!
So what was the issue as to why the older pumps were failing??? Tell us BMW..

do any of you think that maybe the issues with the HPFP are due to the ethanol they put in gas in the states (10%)?
i read earlier that there are a lot less failures in europe than in the states, so maybe that's it? if so we will have a lot more failures soon, i read they are raising the allowable percentage to 15%!! i sure hope they get to the bottom of this, i just ordered a X3 35i and i don't want to have issues with the HPFP |

Hey guys I'm a little late to this thread. Is this thread really about a guy who did a bunch of investigative work to find out there's a recall going on?

I work for BMW and you guys are too funny thinking that the 2 different part numbers are DIFFERENT FUEL PUMPS. You know BMW has had a recall on this pump. Just last week I did a RETURN to BMW with 15 HPFP. BMW got so many recalls on the Fuel pumps they superceeded (changed) the part numbers. So the *446 is the exact same one as the new part #. There is no difference in the Fuel pumps. Also you guys know that the "New" fuel pumps your getting are "refurbished" ones that blew up!?

Why would BMW bother coming up with a new part number if they're identical? They must be pretty close in how they work though since they say in their TSB that if you already have the 933 pump, they don't need to update you to the new 446 one. Fuel pump TSB |

Me- I asked the service people at BMW do the 2010s have any problems....
My service person- No My fuel pump went.... Lies after lies... Today my car was so messed up from poor BMW service the guys at tire kingdome was telling me how badly the car was alined. The guys at tire kingdom checked the computer system and found some odd issues. I try to get a hold of service department and they were suppose to call me back and never did... I spent 6.5 hours at TK... My GOD I am sick of this... But damn do these new tires look good...
