I can't tell who is serious and who isn't.
The guy who said he heard the intake would put him close to 335i numbers was joking, 100%. You all need some e-sarcasm detectors. |

I am going to do this, gut the secondary cats and do a tune up all at once, hopefully feel a bit of difference... not that I have any complaints about the power.

Sliding the hose/boot (the connection near the throttle body) on was a little tough. With just a little WD40 it slid right on all the way and then I clamped it.

Will this fit?
Will This fit on my 325? I just want to make sure before I buy it? I'm asking cuz the ECS Link says its for the 330i.

Did the install yesterday. Wow.. Since then, I've been smiling every time I put my foot on gas pedal. My Performance Exhaust sounds so much meaner now, and the car keeps on pulling and pulling especially at higher speeds. This is just what I was looking for!!

See what I'm talking about?!? So much better than stock. The intake and exhaust really make this car sound mean.

The only similarities between the 328 and 128 are the engines (as far as I know). I would lead more towards no. I don't know what the engine bay looks like, but I would wager that everything is smaller. Maybe you could post a pic of your engine bay.
Maybe there is a euro intake for the 128. Take a look at a European BMW parts site and compare the item numbers. |

Actually I'm almost 100% sure it will work with 128i as well. The intake box used in the 125i is the same as 325i.
If you compare the following links: http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?...=13&fg=20&hl=4 and http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?...13&fg=20&hl=15 Notice that the part numbers are the same for #1 (13717555287) which is the air filter box. Now, the same website indicates that 330i uses an air filter box with a different part# (13717552437). This is what ECS is selling. I'm not sure if there are any differences between the two but I highly doubt it. I did not buy mine from ECS. The box that I'm using now on my e92 328i came off of Euro e92 325i with part# 13717555287. However there are many 328 owners here (including bpas328xi) who bought theirs from ECS. So both fit perfectly. Which leads me to believe that both part numbers will work on a 128i. |

Is this another source for this item? It appears like we are paying $370 to get $30 in plastic. Since it comes with a MAF ($306) and air filter ($31). Wish we could either resell the MAF or not buy it in the first place. Every damn N/A owner should get one of these.

From my research (on RealOEM), I have concluded that the difference between the two PNs (13717555287, 13717552437) is due to the MAF. Everything else is identical, and since we have no use for that MAF in the US, you can buy either. There is a 3rd PN (13717541736) out there which again, I think has to do with the MAF being changed. This is a list of vehicles that share the same air box set up and can be retrofitted in our US cars. The list is quite extensive, basically all 1 series, 3 series and X1's that have the N52 or N53 engine.
I myself was able to purchase one from a wrecked 130i (I think) from Ebay UK for $180. I tried a lot of search keywords until I was finally able to find the part. Anything too specific wasn't working. I used "BMW air box" which yielded about 400 useless items and 1 solid hit. Once it makes it's trip over from the UK, I will post my thoughts. I also bought the proper K&N filter (Part # E-2020) from a US website. I am thinking about doing the intake silencer delete DIY & thrown on cyba scoops as well since I have to dismantle the intake anyway. I feel like this will give me the best intake setup possible. Good luck searching. |

Got my intake in 2 days from UK.. Still waiting on the K&N filter from NJ though...
I got impatient and installed it with the stock paper filter. I still noticed a difference, though. I would say it is slightly louder at WOT, and is more eager to rev. It felt like it was getting to the redline faster and with less effort. I realize that this may be in my head, but I didn't feel this way after I installed the PBX. I felt a difference from the get go. Also, I know this is a small sample, but my avg MPG was 33.6 after a 30 mile highway trip. I can't ever remember it being close that high before. I can't really remember breaking 30 before. We will see what the tank average is. I think I will wait to install the K&N until the next fill up to see if it's just a fluke. As far as fit and finish, since its an OEM part it really fits like a glove and of high quality. It's a bit bigger than the stock air box and is quite snug in the engine bay. As far as the design, I feel like this is probably the best CAI possible for the x28i's out there. The cylindrical filter is really quite big. The slight boost I felt from this is causing me to look into a 3-stage manifold swap which should be a bigger boost. Plan is to finish off with the AA tune once I am done tinkering with the engine. |

How much better is this than my BMW PI? I already have a PE and the AA tune. How much more would I have to gain to swap my PI for this?

You should probably look into transforming your US-spec BMW PI into Euro-spec BMW PI with cone filter. It will be better than what we have because of the additional air inlet.

I was actually curious too I checked the realoem website. It looks like only thing you need is the lower portion of the Euro intake, and a round filter.
Euro-spec: http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?...=13&fg=95&hl=2 US-spec: http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?...=13&fg=95&hl=2 EDIT: Hmm actually, the parts look a bit different.. Euro versions snorkel and upper box part seems to have a different shape. I still wonder if you could do this.. |
