Just want to let you know that we did mostly chemical cleaning and scrubbing. The walnut blaster we have was too messy and cumbersome to use on its own. Paul just used the walnut blasting on his car to finish the job after doing the chemical scrubbing. |

It all depends on how much time you want to spend scrubbing them. We could also try making some modifications to the blaster we have, namely a longer nozzle and maybe fabricate some sort of plate to keep the shells from making a mess.

how long would chemical cleaning take compared to walnut blasting... to produce the same results at least? |

Chemical is all about the time taken to clean and it doesn't really clean the top of the valves particularly well.
I used walnut to blast the top of the valves and it helped (I did this after chemical) It was epic messy. Plus I think the dispenser gun wasn't great. Long story short if we want to do walnut (given the recent threads I think a good apparatus are required) then we should look at doing a proper job. This would involve people pooling cash to buy a the kit. If at 5-6 people it would likely still be cheaper to buy the kit than to pay bmw individually. Whatever you guys decide to do I am happy to give some pointers.

I'd be interested depending on the date.

Hey Todd,
Well I had a slight stutter/hesitation in acceleration. The dealership recorded misfire on Cyl 5 so when I cleaned that I noticed excess carbon on the back of the valve stem where there is a limited clearance between the valve stem and the casting (i.e. more than the other cylinders). After hacking it all away the difference was: 1) No hesitation/stuttering in acceleration 2) A more immediate throttle response (not perfect but after driving a 335i here in UK yesterday it appears to be a engine characteristic) The overall build up wasn't bad but there definitely was some at 32k.

I'm still trying to find time to get this done. Unfortunately it seems my schedule doesn't work well with others
I'm every weekend in June and July probably won't be any better. I'm usually free middle of the week, so if anyone has time and know how I'm game.

Still need to do Todd's car - he's been waiting for a while! After that, we'll start a list for everyone else.
